Definitely too early, but still an enjoyable and educating conversation. Thank you.

I don't know much of Kung fu. I've only studied I Ching so I can only comment so far.

I've read a lot of eastern stuff back in my younger days.
The book of five rings was one of my favorites.

I never could get the true gist of the Hagakure tho.
It's short read but isn't really what it seems.
It's presented like a guidebook to living as a samurai, but it's more about presenting oneself in all aspects of life, and perception of oneself.

Haha damn this thread went waaaaaay off topic

Yes. It's off the rails, so let me bring it back around with a jpg of a voltage tester.

My grandpa, who was a "handyman" back in the day would have made one of those. Dad tells the story - which I believe to be true - that Gramps would check to see if the circuit was live by touching the bare wires. This is back in the day when knob-and-tube was "modern tech".
"Yup, she's hot."

Well you know you are stupid when your car requires you to promise that you're gonna play nice with the rest of the traffic before the map will tell you where you're goin'.

Makes me wonder who will be held liable in the inevitable first collision between two "self-driving" cars ? :?:

Nice!
I'm a simple Ninja but I've read a book or two as well.

Musashi advocated two long swords because he was a very tall man and could wield them quite easily.
His size gave him an advantage, as the average Japanese man was smaller than him.
He advocated training with two katanas, to prepare oneself for the different aspects of battle which he addresses in the books.
He was a legendary Samurai, and beat a man in a dual with a wooded oar whittled into a sword, while hungover.
He was also a drunk.

Kung fu ( Chinese) is a mistranslation of Gong fu, which means an area of study.
The west associated it with a martial art in.
Confucius was actually named Gong qui.
The connection between Confucius and Kung fu is sketchy, and though possible, I never bought into, tho herbalists similar to the western ear.
They are from two very different political and philosophical schools.

Interesting. I will give more consideration. What to me makes sense
may not to all. Wu shu I believe it is, Chinese yes, to me seems much
likened to Taoism in its basic elements. This is where a lot gets to
be very buried in clouds, clouds brah! ;) :)

It all seems blending together. Probably from a lot of drunken sword
guys and tea room flower arrangers, sitting by the lanterns and
waxing on about butterflies.

Had access to a set of katana briefly. They were borrowed
from a friend who was Khmer ( Cambodian ). He also lent
me a few various other tools for a while. Never asked how
or why he got his grubby paws on them. His sister fed me
good noodles and rice dishes. Only with him present though.

I possibly still butcher counting to five in Khmer ... mo, mi, pei,
pyme, bo. Yes, more consideration and thank you for the further
knowledge. :)

Stop me if you've heard this one ...

What do you call 1000 lawyers chained together at the bottom of the ocean ? :?:

repeated often by an old friend who is now a superior court judge ...
A good start

What do you call a bus load of lawyers driving off a cliff with one vacant seat?

A crying shame.
:p

The judge will hear this variation next time I see him, he'll love it ...

By the way, he told me once that some of the judges don't wear pants under their robes while in court, to avoid wrinkling them. I found this disturbing ...
