As of 30 minutes ago I have gone 22 days without a cigarette. 8 pm October 13th was my last one. That first night was the hardest for me. About 10 pm I REALLY wanted a cigarette. I managed to resist the temptation. Since then there have been a couple of moments where I want a cigarette, but nothing like that panic the first night. I have been using about 4-5 Camel Snus a week, and as soon as I have recovered financially from my recent juice orders I will be ordering some real Swedish Snus to sample, as I hear they are far superior. The Snus really helps me through the moments when I am feeling week even with my Ego, and I thank those here on ECF representing the dark side!
This was not my first sojourn into the world of Ecigs. I purchased my first almost a year ago, December of 2009. It was the Super Ecig starter kit from what was then The Electronic Cigarette Company, and is now Totally Wicked. I was immediately impressed, and went from being a pack and a half to two pack a day smoker to 4 or 5 smokes a day overnight. After about a week I was down to one cigarette a day, but just couldn't get over that last one. I hovered there for a couple of weeks, then relapsed while on a 1200 mile drive without a car charger. I smoked 3 packs in those 1200 miles, and jumped back into the tobacco with both feet. I tried and tried to get back down to that one cig a day, but just couldn't do it. Not to mention, since I was spending money on cigarettes again, and had just moved halfway across the country, I was unable to get the scratch together to make a juice order when I started to get low. So sometime in February of 2010 my poor little Super Ecig was relegated to the back of a junk drawer and I was smoking again full tilt.
So towards the end of this summer I started seeing the Ecig commercials on TV, and was reminded of my little Super, waiting patiently for me to be ready to take the plunge again. I got it out and charged it up, and started trying to cut back on my smoking again. After making a little progress I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to succeed I was absolutely going to need a model with better battery life. I just couldn't conceive of carrying five or six batteries around to get me through the day, and I really couldn't imagine how I was going to keep them all charged. So I bought a Tornado starter kit from Totally Wicked. After doing some more looking around I realized I could have gotten it a bit cheaper if I had shopped around and just gone for an Ego, but the difference is not huge and I have always been happy with TW's service, not to mention I kinda like their unapologetic attitude. Anyway, after buying the Tornado I had just enough money left to purchase a 50mL bottle of Dekang ejuice from Madvapes. I foolishly expected it to last at least a month, based on my ~1mL/day usage I remembered from using my Super, not realizing that with a larger model, and smoking no cigarettes, I was going to consuming about 3mL/day. WOW! That's a lot of juice! I read tales here on ECF of people using 20mL a week and couldn't believe it, but I am now convinced.
So anyway, I just wanted to post some of my experiences so that maybe someone else who is considering the switch can learn something from my journey. Here are a couple more thoughts.
- Automatic batteries and PV's that look like cigarettes - When I was getting started, I was convinced that I would need automatic batteries and a PV that looked like a cigarette. Not only was I wrong, I was WAY wrong. Manual batteries are superior, and constraining myself to one of the smaller models just so it resembled a cigarette was silly. However, I passed along the Super to my Dad when my Tornado arrived, so it was not a waste.
- Ejuice - Order more than you think you need. You will probably use more than you think if you completely remove cigarettes from your routine.
- Smells & Taste - These have come back slowly, but steadily. I keep getting weirded out when I smell something. I was walking by a car in a parking lot the other day and I could smell the air freshener from outside the vehicle! Oh, and frozen junk food is becoming less tasty every day....
Have fun and Good Luck!
