Phaser technology should be the answer for the next breakthrough. Instead of variable voltage or variable wattage there will be only "stun" and "kill" settings. The latter, of course, best used with only high PG ratio juices. With the proper attachment it will also be able to recharge your tri-corder.

I like the way you think.

has anyone ever seen those humidifiers that use a small vibrating metal disc that moves ultrasonically and makes water vapor. wonder why they couldn't do this for e-cigs that would be a better and more consistent way of vapor production i would think.

Uncorking a bottle of e-liquid and standing next to Fukushima works too.

It is certainly possible, but is more complicated. A wick + resistance wire is cheap and works well. Not saying we might not see some disruptive tech emerge, but the current approach works well enough.

:D That's what they said about first generation e-cigs back as soon as 2009.
It's kinda like challenging "worse" just when you think you got it licked... It comes back!

So basically, you have just challenged the really creative people out there to come up with something that works, and works well.

BTW, to the OP, I was not trying to be unkind or make fun of your suggestion. I was mulling over the possibilities of no-heat vaping myself a few days back. Just in a silly mood tonight and picked up and ran with the silliness already at work in the thread. ;)

I would love a wickless alternative, myself. That sort of seems to be the holy grail right now.

I love this industry and how fast the technology is moving. When I began almost 6 years ago, we were fiddling with tea bags and blue foam to get the perfect vape in our tiny cigalikes. I quit for 3 years and came back to a whole new world of vaping. Very exciting. I can't wait to see what's on the horizon. :)

I believe that the next step would be to design a heating element that also wicked. That way it would do away with extra material, it would be only one thing doing two jobs.
Sometimes, late at night, I start coming up with crazy ideas like, converting to A/C and using a micro induction coil to heat a metal wick. Eh, I don't even know what I'm talking about tho. I just remember at one of my past jobs I was instructed "don't leave any parts in the De-Mag when you go to break or it will melt a hole right thru the table" one day I did leave a part in the magnetic field for about five minutes and when I grabbed it I burnt the oh my goodness out of mgt hand.

This post was found in an ancient ruin, possibly left by aliens.

lol yea i was just thinking of the idea and thought i would post. but i feel that sometimes when people invent stuff they get stuck on the first method that worked and keep things like that for years. instead of trying to figure out ways to make the design better. i feel that there could be a lot of big improvements to the current industry design.

Someone played around with that idea a little while back. Twisted multiple strands of thin Kanthal into a rope and set it up in a dripper. It certainly has its challenges to work out, but it wicked and made vapor quite nicely.
