So I've been trying to build micro coils on my igo L. My current coil is 3.5 ohm on a 2mm silica wick. The pull feels nice and the flavor is good. But I get a throat hit that makes me cough. Is it an issue of resistance? The 2.7 ohm coil I built for my protank is amazing but I'd love to get a milder hit when dripping.

this is likely an issue of coil placement in relation to the air hole. if the coil is too high, youll get a harsh hit. if its too low, youll get a lack of flavor. try placing your coil smack dab in front of the hole (height wise), about 2-3mm from the wall of the cap (width wise).

Thanks kemosabe. I built a new coil around a hanging nail and threaded cotton as a wick. It still registers pretty high ~3.2ohm but it hits much better. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with the micro coils. I'm using about ten wraps very thin and pretty close together.

I use the thicker gauge wire for the micros. 28g is great. Or if you only have higher gauge, try twisting the wire or running two strands together as one. It'll lower the resistance.

I will try twisting them. The second coil I tried today has been much better but it still is reading 3.5ohm. I've been chain vaping it so I'm sure the cotton will need to be replaced soon an I will try twisting the wires.

One other note of peculiarity is that the coil I made for the protank started loosing its flavor and throat hit. The vapor was still there but the same tank of juice just wasn't cutting it. It may have just been an issue with the juice level getting low. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but I will tomorrow.

Thanks for all the great advice so far!

Darn it! I was all happy with my 28g micros and thinking how great they were, came here thinking I could offer some help (turns out most of what I was going to say has been said) and now, thanks to you all, I am off to build twisted coils....

On topic, yes try 28g if you are going for ten+ wraps. Also you could reduce the wraps to get a lower ohm coil, and coil placement. See really had nothing new to add

Don't feel bad I appreciate the second opinion! Let me know how the twisted coil goes as I probably won't venture to one until tomorrow.

I do have that sometimes. I think the problem, with mine, was the coil is at the stage closed to hot spot, even though it doesn't look red. If you empty the tank, dry fire, you will see hot spot after a long shot. My solution was playing with the coil by a needle nose tweezers.

So I tried twisting two ends of 32g kanthal to build a coil. I did 9 wraps around a hanging nail with a cotton wick but sadly registered at 0.8omhs. So it wouldn't fire. I tried to add a wrap and have barely any legs to connect with and spread out the coils and it fired at 1.2ohm. Seemed to work well but there was so little wick that it wouldn't be a viable set up. But I will play around with this idea more tomorrow.

I use either 75/25 or 50/50 pg/vg juice. The flavors are everything from coffee to Swedish fish. The newer coils I've built aren't as harsh on the throat but on my protank they're too soft oddly. I use between 6mg and 16mg nicotine as well.

Nicotine level can affect throat hit and the same with PG. I believe VG has a softer throat hit than PG, which is what I've noticed.
