I've noticed that vaping is kind of rough on the throat, and my wife says she thinks hers would be sore if she vaped instead of smoked. Is this common for new vapers to experience? Is it a possible atomizer malfunction, bad juice, or technique? It doesn't really bother me but she is weary.

Drink a LOT - especially when vaping - PG and Vg are both humectants and will dry you out unless you increase your water consumption. Most vapers find at first they get dry/sore/swollen throats but drinking will alleviate this - take a thraot lozenge if neccessary.
PG on its own CAN be 'harsher' and some people CAN be sensitive to it, but usually its dehydration.

Yup, sore throat comes and goes. I was kinda scared at first with it, but e cigs offer the same side effects as quiting smoking, because you are, and i had done that previously, and had same accurance. It'll pass in about 2 weeks. You'll be coughing up the green tar too. 3 days in with no analogs will start the process. 2 weeks later, your over the hump, back to feeling shnazzy, and a bit better...then taste comes back, flights of stairs look shorter, you smell when dog needs a bath, etc. But, if nic is way too high, and 24 or less is good unless you were cigar guy, then the hit is intense. VG will smooth it out a bit over pg, kinda like when turkish golds hit the market. But find that right spot for ya with that sweet flavor, and everything else will work itself out :)
24 for reds, 12 for ultra lights..the flavor, vapor, and TH are directly related to nic level in most cases, just as analogs did, in my experience.

Try different PG VG mixes
