no,

Quality 14500s work with the TI booster---- e.g. AW brand

I see you aren't running the caps on your board, have you had problems with it?

Is there a posting anywhere that shows how to wire the TI booster? I've been looking at them and I'm a bit confused as to where you are supposed to solder the leads.

You definitely need the caps if you want stable voltage and to reduce the peaks in current drain from the battery.

The wiring for base 5v is pretty simple:

The base is ground to pin 1, voltage in beside it (short side) and voltage out on the other side of ground (the long side).

You need a 100 uF low ESR cap between ground and Vin and another between ground and Vout.

No biggie,

But I've made quite a bit more than a few of these mods, some with caps, some without, some with one...etc.

And have not noticed any difference in performance.

I currently use two different bats, one trustfire the other AW brand of 14500 3.7....

they both work just fine, though the AW brand work for twice the time.

4 hrs. of heavy vaping for the AWs and maybe just two hrs, for the trustfires...

Call me lucky, or just to stupid to know better---but it's the best set-up for smoking cartomizers I know of...

Right-on
Rock on with your switch down

Best Regards
fo

PS. there's a PDF data sheet on the ti part # page---all is reveled to the reader...

but yeah ground to the #1. leg VI below same side--VO opposite the 1. leg.

Data sheet! Stoopid! Thanks guys for the help. I've got my 5V TI mod up and running now with a DSE801 atomizer. I LOVE THIS THING! I always liked the 801 but felt like it was underpowered, not any more! Tons of vapor, great flavor, huge cart, this thing is awesome! It does pig out on the liquid though and I actually made myself a bit sick by using it too much last night. That never happened before with the lower voltage mods.

I'm running two UltraFire 14500 batteries in series. I didn't bother to put the caps on for the first one as I was running out of space. So far I've had zero problems with the box but I will be putting it on the oscilloscope later to see what the output looks like and make sure that I'm not going to start trashing batteries. So far though the temp probe I hooked up to the batteries shows very little rise in temp and the current flow seems pretty stable. I doubt with the short duty cycle that any spikes in current draw will be an issue but I am curious to see exactly what is happening on the output side of this board.

Thanks again to everyone that helped!

Yes, parallel! I've learned two things with this project: One, don't solder or lay out circuits when sleep deprived, it leads to ruined components and second degree burns. Second: don't post after you finish your mod and are even more sleep deprived as you will make stupid mistakes in bragging about your new mod and look like an idiot.

Thank you for the lessons learned :)

where can i get this TI booster and what good will it do for my mods?

There are a few advantages, the biggest is that is turns a single battery into a 5v+ mod. Because its a single battery it also allows a USB charger to be added easily.

Assuming you use a protection circuit it also is inherently safer than using a 2 bat in series solution for higher voltage.
