Tips for steeping ejuice

Hi I recently bought some ejuices from velvet cloud vapor and since they're handmade at the moment you order them I will have to let the steep, is there a difference if I let them steep without opening them and leaving them in the mail package or should I take the cap off and let them steep on a drawer? Also how many days should I do this? Thanks :D

I always try my juices out of the mail so I can compare and see how it morphs day by day. I can tell you this about VCV juices I've gotten if it helps any:

1.White Beard: My favorite!! Tasted GREAT out of the mail! After 3 days it tasted even better! After 8 days-pure heaven. The sweetness hits my tongue and the vanilla comes out more(but doesn't take center stage away from the tobacco)!!

2. Chocolate Pudding:Best chocolate flavor I've tried thus far. And it's really the chocolate pudding flavor-not the common Tootsie Roll flavor. Out of the mail-great stuff, but I had to add a few drops of Bavarian Cream to my carto to add creaminess. At 5 days-I didn't have to add ANYTHING! It tasted JUST like creamy chocolate Jell-O Pudding!!

3.Vanilla Custard:Bland and just...vanilla and sweet flavor out of the mail. 14 days later it's a bit more palatable but is still not something I would call 'custard'.

4.Burley Beard:I admit, I never tried this one out of the mail and still haven't cuz I'm still so addicted to the White Beard. But-14 days after getting it, the smell from the bottle is very powerful and smells like it will taste like analogs.

5.Caramel Swirl:Very bland out of the mail. 5 days later a bit more flavorful but I had to adds few drops of my French Vanilla to it to give it more 'umph'. I admit that I haven't revisited it since. Though I wi-eventually.

I am now awaiting another order from VCV(Vanilla Tobacco & Mewlew). I will definitely try these two straight from the mail. They should be here in 3 days.

**Some people on here will try to tell you VCV juices 'reverse steep', which means they get WORSE with age. This has NOT been my experience with VCVs awesome juices and I don't know what would possess someone to slam an honest vendor like this. VCVs juices get much more flavorful with age and no one flavor will overpower the juice!!

My method of steeping, if this helps you is:

1.First 24 hours, shake; take cap off & dripper cap off and put in dark cabinet.
2.Second day, shake shake shake! Cap off(dripper on-squeeze out juice in tip by squeezing bottle and sucking in oxygen. 6 hours later-cap on-shake shake shake!! Cap off over night again in cabinet(same deal-dripper tip on bottle with new air sucked in by squeezing the bottle)
3.Third to 7th day-cap on and shake whenever I go into the kitchen, keep in dark cabinet.
4.Shake every day.

This is only MY method. Everyone has a different way of steeping. Just do whatever feels right to you as an individual.

***Sooo...what yummy juices did you get!!??

Oh. I also 'seed steep' whenever possible. Seed steeping is when you have a well-steeped flavor with only a bit left in its' bottle. You have received a new bottle of the same flavor. You add the well-steeped juice that remains(from The older bottle) into the newer bottle and the steeping time for that new bottle SIGNIFICANTLY decreases. Try it! It's amazing!!

Annie nailed it. Shake well, taste, then overnight with the cap and tip off of the bottle...this gets any alcohol or perfume taste out. 2nd day through end of 2nd week I take the cap off, squeeze out what air is in the bottle and get fresh air in. Then shake vigorously for 1 minute. Shaking the bottle. Numerous times a day is a good thing. It makes having back stock ready to vape and juice still steeping fun to keep track of. I have a cabinet set up with: ready to go on one side, still steeping on the other....and another cabinet of currently vaping juice and fresh batteries too. Good times!! :vapor:

Thanks Butters-I've only been off analogs about 4 months now so it's good to know I'm steeping correctly :)

For complex tobacco flavors, I've also had luck speeding up the steeping process by "cooking" them in a mini-crock pot for a few hours.
Leave the caps off overnight the 1st day. 2nd day put them in a ziplock baggy and soak in the mini-crock pot for 3 hours, then shake em up good. Maybe give it a second round in the crock pot. The mini-crock gets them nice and toasty without boiling them, which thins the juice and improves the mix when shaking. For me, this can age an RY4 for a week or two, in a day.
It doesn't seem to be as effective on fruity flavors, but tobaccos, custards, or anything complex, it works.

Okay, Being at 65 days, I want to learn about steeping. I asked my local vendor and was told that it wasn't needed. He didn't seem to know much more than that.

So, the question I have is are there times that a juice doesn't need to be steeped? What are vendors doing that might not call for it?

If steeping is recommended, what is the vendor not doing?

I guess the bottom line is how I can figure out my part in getting the best juice flavor.

Thanks,

Jere

Some ejuice is great right outta the mail. If it isn't then it needs to age. The ingredients need time to meld. The more ingredients the longer it needs to age. Shaking ensures they mix properly. Airing allows any chemicals to evaporate that cause perfume or alcohol tastes in the juice. I taste my juices daily to determine when they are ready for me. Usually a week is all I've ever needed to date.

By "perfume", do you mean the smell from the vapor cloud? I have a fair amount of that. I am just trying to stay away from trying each bottle every day. As it is right now, I steep as Annie says, giving the new bottles time.

With all this in mind, is there a possibility of steeping to much or to long?

Thanks for helping,

Jere

The "perfume" smell usually refers to a sort of chemical-like smell or taste to the juice. Totally normal, and usually goes away with airing out/aging. If it doesn't, it's bad juice!

The scent that the vapor has after you exhale it should be there - if you're vaping coffee flavored e-juice, the vapor cloud you exhale will probably smell faintly of coffee, for example. Some have stronger smells than others.

As mentioned above, some believe that certain juices can "reverse steep". I have never experienced this. Of course, ejuice can and will go bad after awhile. But we're talking months.

I don't taste my juice every day, unless there's a particular flavor I'm really anxious to get going on. Do you have something you can use to drip? I have a bridgeless atty that I use to test different flavors.

What is a bridgeless atty? I see the shop I go to has an atomizer for each flavor to sample. Is it like that?

Jere

Sorry, I just saw this!

Here is an example of a bridgeless atomizer. You drip the liquid (just a few drops) onto the coils, put on a drip tip, and vape. You only get a few hits before the liquid burns away, so you have to keep adding to it. But it's perfect for testing flavors because you can drip one flavor on top of another one - once one flavor vapes away, drip a new one and vape! You may get the flavor of both for a drag or two, but it goes away.

Bridgeless 510 Atomizer, 2 ohms

Here are some basic tips from The Ocelot:
