To evic or not to evic ... that is the question.

Thats a decent price but most ebays are real close to that and include free shipping

Went back to look for eVic accessories, while there are a couple eVic for sale at $85.00 or less I found most of the buy It Now deals to be $100.00 or more with quite a few at $250.00.

I would caution those shopping eBay to know the average online price at reputable vendors before clicking the buy it now button on eBay.

Saw one closed deal for an eVic with a Kanger PT 3 for $250.00. Without shopping the deal you should be able to pick up that combo for less than $150.00. I'm all for making a profit but damn. Caveat Emptor.

I had my eVic since July, 2013, and liked it. Was it perfect? No. Was it a bad unit? No. It served my needs well, and didn't have much of the rattlesnake effect some cheaper VV/VW devices have. I don't sub ohm, so it had plenty of power capability for me. What I didn't like though, is that the 510 connection threads started getting wonky on me after about 6 months,so I put an air flow controller on as a thread saver. I did like the ease of adjusting power/putting in standby. I didn't like how it felt as if there was a bit of lag to get it up to vape temp when I hit the fire button. It did have a few software glitches from time to time where it would power off randomly, but for a device that goes in our pocket. (Static electricity) that is not something I would be surprised with. I loved the built in charger feature, and I loved the battery life I got with it. The unit died on me 2 weeks ago, though, which I was unhappy about. I also feel that for what it does, and the limited features of it that I used (I never used any of the programmable curves, I never used the statistical capabilities, and I ran it in VV mode ( as unless the VW is recalculating and adjusting multiple times a second, it never really provides TRUE VW-- no device I know of does)), for me, it was a bit overpriced, as I payed for all of these features, and only used like 20% of them. It is a light device, which can be interpreted as "feels cheap"- but it also means less fatigue to carry/use.
I ultimately replaced it with a ProVari, as it had everything I wanted/needed, and nothing I didn't, and is built like a tank. The 2yr warranty (1yr + 1y extended) also helped (paid $100 for the evic, and used for 7 months...ProVari $170, and knowing I'm good for 4x as long at a minimum is a nice peace of mind). The ProVari does what it does reliably, and does it well. Of course I would recommend it, however if you are set on the evic and it's features, it's not a bad unit....just because mine died, there are thousands more out there that have never had a problem.

Nothing against Provari at all, just wish people would stop BLUFFING Price differences.
For a budget limited shopper this is important, period.

A top of the line Mod for $170, without including the Extended warranty expense, Cost of Batteries and Charger is not a 1:1 reference

Basic Satin Silver Provari (No Frills)- 18650 setup, charger and (1) 18650 Battery with 1yr extended warranty = $231.75
Not, in my opinion, a bad price for one of the most solidly built mods on the market, but not $170.
This would be a minimum for first time buyer +/- extended warranty (in comparison)

Only time I looked it was about $212 for a package and I didn't really check out the options. Decided that I wouldn't spend that much until I was sure I was going to continue vaping. Maybe a year.

If I bought one for me and one for the wife at $232 that would be about what we spent in a month on cartons of cigs. A. month.

Holy monkey!!! Thats ridiculous!!! I paid $83 for mine, buy it now and free shipping. Who would pay that much for an eVic, $250??

If I were buying an eVic today, I'd find a place that sells JUST the mod itself, and find another source for a couple of the 3400mah Panasonic batteries, and a good dual (or quad) bay charger. I've got two Xtar chargers that have been working GREAT, but I don't see too many bad things about the Nitecore or Efest chargers, and they are a bit cheaper.

Just some more info for anyone to consider.

I have both a VAMO and an eVic so here's my compare and contrast take:

The VAMO is good and will get you where you need to go. What it does it does well. The three operation modes - 18650, mini 18350 and stacked 18350 are nice and flexible. But: Don't get anything but stainless. The chrome finishes will begin wearing through in a matter of weeks. It's long, it's heavy and it's slippery. No matter what ridges or not built onto any given model, it's a pain to hold onto. Don't stand it upright - it's top heavy and will fall over.

Crossing over here - the VAMO is a tad over one inch longer than the eVic. The eVic immediately becomes more user friendly right there.

I'm a tech junkie. To me the fact that the eVic is firmware upgradeable and user programmable is a sell right there. With the last firmware release you can pretty much customize the display to show what you want, any place you want. The last release allows you to invert the display too.

You can also create 3 custom VW and 1 custom VV operating modes. Start your power at 9 watts for 2 seconds, drop it to 8.2 watts for 4 seconds, finish at 7.5 watts - stuff like that. There is a web site link provided at Joyetech where you can share and download custom vape "recipes" like these.

I get what people have said out the pre-programmed modes having a "soft" start. No - an eVic doesn't hit you over the head the split second you fire it. No problem - use the Auto mode. Wha...? Auto mode? It's not what you think. If you put it in Auto mode you can set the number of seconds it automatically runs for. Set it for an 8 second vape, and don't start drawing on it until after two seconds. You hit the fire button and release, the display is gonna count up the number of seconds it's been firing so when see two seconds have elapsed - start vaping.

To override the Auto mode just push and hold the fire button as per usual.

This thing has a boat load of features. I haven't even touched on how it vapes. It's still a version of PWM, but it's running a lot higher than the usual 33 Hz PWM - no rattlesnake effect and a very smooth vape.

I got's mine in the classifieds for 60 bucks - V1 head, three battery tubes, two top rings, two batteries. They do show up on occasion, but youse guys need to get verified in order to access the classys. => http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/site-feedback-help/305495-verified-member-explained-more-detail-faq-included.html

Off hand, a couple other places I know selling them are Cignot and Good Prophets. Good Prophets has the 18350 battery tubes as well in black and silver.

:::whine::: Man, I wish goodprophets had the flat top caps for the eVic. I'd buy a black 18350 tube if I could get a flat, black top cap from the same place. I know cignot has 'em, but I hate paying twice for shipping. I'm just a cheapskate that way.

if you are seriously considering the evic or the legend you should seriously be thinking provari instead. in that class its worth the money. or get a protovapor xpv, another high quality mod, this one more for high watt vaping.

if you want something less expensive, I can only recommend the zmax v5 or the mvp v2. both have much better build than the evic and are cheaper

I have had a evic for since they first came out, I (kinda) broke the first one (v1 is junk) but I have had my v2 for about 8 months and it has been just fantastic, I dont really buy into the gimmicks with the computer control stuff I just like the interface, the fact that the remaining battery is displayed clearly in the corner, and that it functions day after day without any flaw.

I am on my 2nd control head and about to purchase my last... same problem as everyone else with the threads. I can justify the $60 for a new head as it is much cheaper than the provari.

I change my wattage all the time, up and down and haven't found anything else with the ring type adjuster that works as well as the eVic.

This time I am going to put in an airflow mod as a threadsaver, hope that does the trick.

I swear I can quit the eVic any time.

I have an evic v2. I have been immensely impressed with this mod, and has been my first mod purchase 10 months ago. I still use ittoday even despite owning a DNA20 and DNA30, MVPv2, VTR and numerous mechanicals. I don't use it everyday anymore, but it has been seeing much more use again lately. It has its limitations, but what it does it does well. I'm not a fan of it's regulations with its low amp limits. Doesn't allow for a lot of loads to be fired beyond 3.7 volts, which may not be enough for most vapors. Its designed for more mid ranged ohms. I haved dropped it numerous times, and was scared every time I did. Other than a few exterior nicks and blemishes it still works flawlessly. It does have as many call a "cheap" feel, especially for how much the mod kits costs when they first came out, its no tank like a Provari or VTR.

The evic is rather gimmicky though. A lot of bells and whistles that I never use. I suppose the real time vv/VW setting via the software may suit certain niche markets, but I never really messed with it nor care to. The evic does have a 1 sec delay after the fire button is pressed to start the what i can call "vape time". I suppose you can use the real time settings to fire it hotter in the beginning, but it still takes time to ramp up due to the way the system operates. Its not like it will fire up instantly like using most other mods, even the vamo seems to fire up faster than the Evic.

Because of how I build my kayfuns(my primary delivery device of choice at 1.5 ohms) the Evic isn't enough to get enough power to it. I strictly use the evic with carto tanks as a go to set up when I'm trying to conserve juice or battery life for my DNAs. Despite preferring the Kayfuns, carto tanks are always my second in the line gear, and vapes great off the evic with 2.1 ohm Boge cartos.
