To micro or not to micro?

I have been rebuilding coils for the Kanger heads and the IGO-L in a standard 2mm coil, using both 30 and 32g Kanthal and (sort of) have it down. But I keep seeing micro coil rebuilds and I'm wondering what the advantages are? Why would one want to micro? Why are the coils touching in a micro but not a "standard" coil? What does the micro provide that would make me want to try it?

All I can say is try it. You'll understand what the difference is very quickly.

The main difference is the amount of coil surface area in contact with the juice. More surface area usually equals better flavor and vapor.

As KS said, there is a huge thread all about micro coils, it's well worth a look.

That sums it up very nicely. I literally just wrapped one like 4-5 minutes ago. I've done Mini Coils, 3/32th" diameter, and Micro Coils from 1/16th" to 3/64". Anything smaller and you're heading into Nano territory.

I always wrap mine to be low resistance, between 1.3Ω and 1.5Ω.

Not that you can't get a good -or even a great- vape out of a standard setup, but most flavor chasers, cloud chasers, and hobbyists end up doing either micro coils or sub ohm vaping. Maybe both! If you want any tips how to wrap your coils just ask away or definitely check out the aforementioned thread for the best advice.

I just started them on my drippers and absolutely love them. It seemed intimidating at first but search Youtube for Darkzero's coil jig. I rigged up something similar and it works like a champ. It makes it real easy to wrap a nice tight coil right off the bat.
To be honest I had trouble wraping normal coils but micros on the jig made life real easy.

28GA, 19-20 wraps on 3/64" @ 1.8Ω

"GOAL!!!"

I'll try this again with fewer wraps, but it's doing quite well as is.
