I've read a lot of posts here on the forum and have done a ton of research on e cigs & e juice and I haven't read a single comment about the tobacco companys and how they stand to lose a lot of money with the popularity of e cigs. I wouldn't put it past them to try to lobby for banning e cigs or using scare tactics like the antifreeze crap to scare people away from trying them or getting governments (city, state & federal) to ban them in public places or banning them altogether. Have I just missed those comments or are they being sneaky and hiding behind or manipulating what little research has been done? You know they've got to hate these wonderful devices.

I know that e cigarettes are gaining popularity, but I don't think that it is a major problem for the "traditional" tobacco products at this time.

The tobacco industry was on borrowed time already when it comes to cigarettes.

For the short term, fighting is the way to go (gives some time to adjust) but for the long term, incorporating tobacco extracts (nicotine and others) are good source of revenue for them. I don't think that this industry is populated by devilish or stupid people. I am sure that some companies are already gauging the potential and evaluating the market. If it's worth it, they will probably be our best suppliers. Just check the number of threads about e juice made in the USA...

The big pharmaceutical companys stand to loose a lot more. Ecig users have stopped wasting $ on their nearly useless NRT products.
I spend a lot of time reading the forum sections Classwife pointed out. Fascinating stuff, well worth your time.

Yes, BP stands to loose the most....On one hand they sell the drugs for the diseases caused or exacerbated by tobacco and on the other hand they sell the NRTs-Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Their Nicotine inhaler is very much like a smokeless cigarette that BT brought out in the 80's that the FDA said was a drug delivery device.

Tobacco companies will lose some money in cigarette sales, but nicotine can only easily be harvested from tobacco.

CBB, you're a very wise woman! At this point, I doubt anybody can predict specifics of how it will shake out, but we can be sure that at least 99% of the sound and fury is driven by the question of who will be supplying the e-cigarette industry with nicotine.

I worked for PM and they are generally a GREAT bunch of people. And back "in the day" it was FUN to tell people the non-smoking area was OUTSIDE. For those that call tobacco companies "EVIL" REALLY? You had no clue tobacco is bad for you? Pretty sure it is printed on every pack for the last 30 year. I also believe that a people should be able to do whatever the hell they want as long as it does not effect anyone else (secondhand smoke is the issue there) But I digress...

Phillip Morris had an e-cig that was cartridge based and at the time it was a major failure because of the technology at the time and the cost to produce everything. They decided to stick with their working business model and dropped it. If e-cigs ever go really mainstream, trust me they will be back in it in a second. They also have brand names already set up in case weed is ever legalized.
