For the modern ideologue concealment often lies in false altruism that can be expressed most easily as a desire to “save lives” or “protect the children” and these powerful emotional levers are used relentlessly by those who find a welcoming home for their often extreme views in the public health industry.

There are far fewer landed gentry to target but successful businesses make a good substitute for those who practice the politics of hate and envy. There is hardly a week goes by without a public health ideologue calling for something to be done about “big tobacco”, “big food” or “big whatever”.

Ideologues are only interested in public opinion when it suits their agenda.

Public health ideologues are no more interested in the health of us as individuals or that of our children than Manny Shinwell was interested in the wellbeing of the Yorkshire miners. We are simply a means to an end for such people, a joyless end that is used to justify the perversion of science, the warping of logic and the subjugation of personal freedom.
