Found this on another forum in a topic about the Robbot Tech clone:

"And just noticed that once an 18500 gets down to 3.6v you aren't going to get it to fire above 3.9v unless you pop the battery out and put it back in. Then you get a few more full power puffs till its back to nothing again. I'm only vaping at 13watts so nothing crazy either."

Tried pulling my battery and putting it back in... voila! Power's back. So this appears to be the same issue. Based on what I know of the Robbot clone, I'm thinking the chip in the Tobeco may be an older version Cloupor v1 or v2. I know that the v3 fires straight out of sleep mode and this one does not.

@zoiDman, I fully expected the chip in this device to suck compared against an Evolv or YiHi for the price I paid for it. 60 bucks is worth the housing for me, so I'm going to keep it and either mod it myself or send it to HoH and let them work their magic on it.

Gotcha. Just a Shame that it couldn't work out of the box.

Oh Well. Sounds like you have a Plan for it.

Well technically, it does work! I went almost a full workday today vaping happily at 22.5W with zero issues. Very pleased with the slow rate of battery drain in fact. I'm quite used to swapping batteries at around 3.7v with my mechs anyway, so it wasn't really a tremendous deal. Having to reboot the chip occasionally is a bit of grief that I would normally be quite okay with (because China prices), but I demand perfection.

I absolutely do not regret the purchase!

Sadly I'm going to have to report that the chip in this device is not good. I'm experiencing the same power loss today with my 1 ohm KFL as I did last night with my drippers. When the battery drops below ~3.8v, the device can not maintain output at a power setting above ~16 watts. As the battery continues to drain, the available power output decreases in kind.

I've tested this with a fairly new Sony VTC4 and an even newer (less than a dozen charge cycles) LG HE2 to rule out any battery issues. If Tobeco had charged 20 bucks more and went with the YiHi instead of whatever's in this, they'd have a real winner IMO.

On the bright side, it looks like it's going to be a breeze to get an Evolv board into this and it was still cheap enough that I don't mind the little bit of extra effort. I'm entertaining the idea of contacting Zen's people (HoH has their "Send in the clones!" service) and seeing what sorts of modifications they can make to it. I'm also curious if the threading is Z2 specs.

You will see similar (if not identical) results with the Evolv board.

The battery level indicator, when showing about 1/2, is the time to charge. You shouldn't run your batteries below 3.7/6 ish anyhow.

Interesting! The battery indicator on the Zgripper is around 3/4 full when I start losing voltage. I checked the batteries at that time and found one at 3.78v and the other at 3.82v. When I replaced the one at 3.82v, the device began firing properly again and continued doing so until my indicator was at half. I did replace the battery at that point.

So there may in actuality be nothing at all wrong with this chip! Looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks of it.

Heh, my tracking shows that mine arrived in Atlanta USPS on Oct 9th @ 12:48 am...guess I'm living in the future! :)

That's what happens when those USPS Trucks move at Close to the Speed of Light.

There is a Degree of Time Dilation.

Unfortunately my USPS trucks barely move at the speed of trucks.

Yeah... I have Also Noticed that my Mailman shows up at the Exact same time Everyday.

EXCEPT on days when my Tracking says "Out For Delivery". On those Days, he Always seems to be Running Late.

ALL DAY vaping on this thing, not a single problem. I rebuilt a KFL @ 1.5 ohms and the Zgripper is loving it. Gonna stay in that zone for future builds and try some super-ohm builds on a couple of drippers this weekend too. I'm also extremely happy with the rate of battery drain. Circuitry seems efficient.

Anyone getting one of these who will be able to check if it's Z2 threaded?

Just got mine a few hours ago...really liking it so far. Did notice the voltage drop issue, had to remove/reinsert the battery a couple of times, but works fine, other than that.

Digging the green!

What resistance are you running on that Fogger, monkey39? Looks like 1.0? Can't quite see it. I haven't encountered the voltage loss issue once at 1.5 ohms throughout 3 battery swaps. Could be a thing...
1.1ohm dual coil, usually run it between 17 to 20 watts, depending on the device. I just cleaned my Kayfuns a couple of days ago; I'll throw a 1.5 ohm coil on one tomorrow and try it out. But haven't run into that issue again, so far. I deliberately let it go to sleep a couple of times, just to check, but no issues. [emoji53] I'm hoping it just "worked itself out". [emoji106]
