Too easy - wrap, unwrap replacement coils to make wicks reuseable. Is this old news?!?

Please excuse any incorrect terminology, will do my best.

Guessing Ive been vaping 2-3 yrs always using the ego twist and kanger T3S, originally using the T3. Early on tried but passed on cotton filled ones which I found more bothersome and I couldn't get the hang of anyway.

Ive a collection of soaked wick replacement coils, some easily over a year old, thinking one day I'd replace the wicks as I'd seen done in videos.
Never did pursued that but last week when one of my T3S coil units needed replacement earlier than usual, I got frustrated and tried something that seemed too easy yet worked completely.

Simply tore a strip of napkin, wrapped it several times around the T3S coil unit and then secured it by twisting a rubber band several times around it.
After a few hours, I unwrapped it and the wick was not just cleaner but silvery white clean (!?!) and you could see the napkin stained with the oil it absorbed.
Ive had no issue with it and am going on week two with it.

I repeated procedure on each of my saved coil units and all, even the ancient ones, came out silvery white clean! The napkin seemed ideal, more sensitve absorbant than paper towel but not quite as delicate as tissues.

NOTE: IM NOT claiming anything more than Ive said here having just done it first time last week and having no skills with ecigs aside from buying replacement Twist batteries / T3S coil units. I certainly didnt expected it to come out as white clean as it did.

Couldn't find anything like this online, just more complex steps - is this anything anyone has heard or done?

You didn't say what your soaked wick replacement coils were soaked in.
Is it vodka?
Is it random ejuice?
Is it unflavoured nic?
Is it pg unflavoured nic?

I'd bet it's not water.
