I have to say something. I see a bad moon rising for us as a community. I keep seeing more and more new comers to vaping that show up on the boards asking on how to improve their tricro coil, micro, nano, uber sub ohm build, with no idea what they are doing. They don't know the amp limit of their battery or even why that's important. They just know they saw some guy on YouTube making clouds in his garage and they want to do the same.

i used to think people were over reacting when some guy would show up asking about subohming, ad the entire thread would ALL CAPS battery safety advice. But it's getting more and more common that new vapers are jumping straight into .2 ohm builds and no idea how serious of a risk it is.

If the FDA and big brother have their sights set on the vaping community now, just wait till "young man disfigured by electronic cigarette" is on the morning news.

What can we do about this? Is there anything? I see 'sign this petition' threads day in and day out, but what can we do about this. Let's kick it around as I feel it is certainly thread worthy.

Not a damn thing. As long as there are Rip Tripper videos and the other multitudes of sub ohm coil building videos there will be idiots who just decide on a whim they want to do that. I am not trying to bash Rip Tripper(he's just the flavor of the month in video how to's. What are we going to do try to get a law passed to regulate stupidity? I know it's coming, and it will come. Or something similar to this scenario: 3 children die in fire caused by ecig. Or some jack@$$ will leave his mech laying around with one of these ridiculous builds on it with his trustfire battery that he was told worked just like a sony... You get the idea. We cannot stop it. there is just too many people starting to do this. It is one of the reasons I am getting my Mods lined out. I really believe that if any regulation of devices comes down, it will be on mechs. They are the ones most likely to be abused to the point of compromising safety, so it stands to reason for me. If you find a solution let us know.

How educating them? Other than that here is nothing you can really do about it...
I always do as best I can. The issue is that some turn to the forum after going it alone for who knows how long, with no idea what they are doing. I haven't ever really taken a serious look at it until reading a new member's post a bit ago. If there is anything else to be done, I'm willing to participate. Even if it's only discussing what can be done.

yup. i rarely answer questions cause i only have one hand to type, but i've answered several of the super-noobie-subohm-wannabees just in the last few days.

what makes it worse is all the "helpful" answers from people one step removed from utter noobiness who just say things like "try one less wrap". sheesh...

definitely not a good sign.

besides stockpiing nic base against the inevitable crash, i don't know what to do

Honestly? Start putting your own videos on YouTube.

I have no idea what the percentages are, but there are certainly a LOT of videos out there on sub-ohm vaping/cloud chasing/extreme vaping - and those are the ones that are going to generate a lot of interest. Sure, there are a lot of videos from what I'd consider the more reasoned and level-headed vapers in the community, but there seem to be more than a few of those "OMGCHECKOUTTHIS.001OHMBUILDI'MVAPINGAT80BILLIONWATTSONATRUSTFIRE18490" videos.

The only way to make an impact is to get involved. Twitter, FB, G+, YouTube. Get the word out.

All the cool kids are doing it. ;)

I do agree with you btw... Honestly though, I don't see much we can do about it... Warnings and a direct access to all the info would be the best course of action IMO... Battitude is only one person, the guy needs some help :)

You're right there is a lot of new vapers that want the "biggest and best" and jump right into it and don't go through the learning curve and are a disaster waiting to happen. Some of the posts on here make me cringe.

There's also lots of new vapers, like myself, that also want the best vape possible and jump right into it but do it the right way and read and research for endless hours and do it right. I love micro coils. I love sub ohms builds. I love mechanical mods. I love rebuildables. To ME it is a superior vaping experience compared to a vv/vw and a protank.

Instead of being negative and complaining we should educate and enlighten. Yes those "common sense" questions are hard to read sometimes but at least they're on here asking and seeking advice. Can you think of a worse scenario?

Cheers!

YouTube's Terms of Service are pretty lax. They have nothing really that addresses dangerous acts that are legal. Here's what the guidelines say:
"While it might not seem fair to say you can’t show something because of what viewers theoretically might do in response, we draw the line at content that’s intended to incite violence or encourage dangerous, illegal activities that have an inherent risk of serious physical harm or death. This means not posting videos on things like instructional bomb making, ninja assassin training, sniper attacks, videos that train terrorists, or tips on illegal street racing. Any depictions like these should be educational or documentary and shouldn’t be designed to help or encourage others to imitate them."

So you can even post video how-to's about illegal dangerous acts, apparently, as long as they're EDUCATIONAL and you don't directly say, "Hey, kids, try this at home."

There is a flag system, but I don't know how well it works. If a video doesn't violate the TOS, I don't think they'd take it down or require a warning.

Meanwhile another cigalike explodes in the pocket, and another on the charger.

People with a brain want the best batt to make the best clouds; I don't know how to fix the other guys.

All the policing in the world won't prevent all the Johnny Knoxville auto accidents or even aunt Lucy's fender bender.

Maybe education can lessen the Darwin award winners but not eliminate every award.

I'd be happy with a sub-ohm forum and no discussion of it allowed in the new members forum. It's not too much to ask for a new member to make five posts to get where they need to be is it? Then it would be in an area that would be easier to find and guide people through it safely?
We could have a sticky in the new members area about why it wasn't to be discussed, then safety stickies in the sub-ohm forum.
