Oh, I was just making stuff out of 01 Tool Steel. Takes a nice edge. Hard to describe, I'll try and dig up a pic. I was focused on minimal handles that feel super good in multiple holds/grips.

Very nice work there! I wish I knew how to make knives! I have lots of respect for knife makers & all the amazing skills they have. One of the other forums I frequent is a knife forum. I'm not a knife collector but I do have a few that I love. I go to knife shows all the time just to see them.

Sorry to the OP for going off topic here but here are some sharp pointy things I have made, all out of Titanium 6Al4V.

I just finished this Zombie Killer Spear a couple of weeks ago for someone.

Thats a cool zombie sticker!

Is it also Titanium ?

Thank you, yes it is.

SWEET! I have pined for a machinist's lathe. That is some nice work, darkzero!

RE: OP topic . . . .. "plunging" . . . . all good

HAHA, RE plunge. Thanks! I started off with a HF mini lathe, they're pretty capable of doing a lot & I learned a lot from it.

Props on your knife! Keep making them!

Road biscuits!?! Don't forget the gravy...

Hmm, I need to do some reading on the subject (aluminum in the coils, not road food). I don't know about everyone else but my coils get pretty dagone hot. I'm sure it's still less risky than smoking 4k+ various chemicals but am I wrong to think I remember hearing about Alzheimer's being linked to elevated aluminum content in those afflicted?

Definitely not trying to be an alarmist, heaven knows I've taken more risks in my life than I care to admit, just curious what my fellow vapers think/know/think they know about the subject.

It did work, it was like.....a Groucho wick. Very stylish I thought.

Well, Yeah ("very stylish"), you would think that.

(avatar, mustache)

Personally, I don't wear a mustache. I'm a bee.

pdib's post got me curious so I briefly looked it up. According to Kanthal, A-1 has 5.8% alumn & D has 4.8% alumn with the majority of the content being iron. Nichrome 60 has about 25% of the content being iron with no alum. Nichrome 80 has no almun & no iron.

There was a recent thread where some said they were tasting rust from Kanthal. Not much info on Kanthal on wiki but on wiki it even states Nichrome is used in ecigs.

Wiki states: "Kanthal FeCrAl alloy forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide (alumina).[1] Aluminium oxide is an electrical insulator but has a relatively high thermal conductivity; special techniques may be required to make good electrical connections." So does that mean when we are torching it, there's a chance we are adding resistance to it where the ends are terminated at the posts?

I'm not trying to be an alarmist either. I'm not going to try & dig any deeper as I will just confuse myself anyway. I'll leave it to the smart people if they even want to bother......

I think I'm getting weird spasm from using Kanthal now. ;)

Some people claim to notice differences in flavor, performance, etc. I haven't found Nichrome to be any different, really. (except, of course the fact that it is lower in resistance.) HOWEVER: having just read ↑ this business about the aluminum coating (Kanthal), I hearken back to a thought I had a few days ago, which was . . ..

"Is this Nichrome turning black with use? Why doesn't it go back to silver color when I glow it between wicks? Maybe I should scrape it a bit . .. . . Nope, still black. Humph? Meh, whatever . . . . ."
