I've been tetter-totterin' back-n-forth with 2.5mm & 3.0mm I.D.
I'm not tasting any flavor difference but with the 3mm I virtually eliminated dry hits
that big fat wick just chugs along and also stops most juice trying to get out thru the bottom of the coil body
gave up on all but spaced coils long ago - spaced just seems best to me
I'm gonna wrap up an army of 2.5mm and see if it shows any diff - why the heck not

My flavor boost may be associated with the small size of the coil deck on my EHPRo Kayfun 3.1. 3mm wicking produces tails that have to be tucked in or trimmed to get the lower chimney back on. If I don't trim them they can interfere with air flow and that might have something to do with the little bit of flavor increase I can detect with smaller coils.
2.5mm coil wicks fit the coil deck exactly side to side without compressing them into it or trimming. I turn my coils 90 degrees to the line of the coil screws so that the wicking falls over and just fills the deck next to the juice channels on each side. I trim the wick ends so that they just barely touch the deck and keep them from blocking the juice channels.
So, it might just be slightly increased air flow that's in play here.
