Yesss, you hit the nail on the head right there! It's why I can't use the egrip rba anymore and hate rebuilding my kayfun. I try to use my coils as long as I can. I've had my ST mini for three months and still use the coil that was prebuilt in the rba deck.

I read some of you still use silica. I'd like to give that a try again, but how would you build a kayfun with silica? Any pics?
A lot of people like and use Navy Lifeguard's "Navy Nest" silica wick.

If i'm not mistaken, that used to be the way most people built Kayfuns by wrapping the coil around the Silica when they first came out... I never cared for it myself...

I tried it, then went to regular cotton balls, well wasn't that a nasty experience in taste...

Next the KGD arrived which is excellent, then Rayon FTW!!!
Rayon is almost all I use these days, except for the Ekowool over SS Mesh on my Genny's, because [HASHTAG]#NoCottonInMyGenny[/HASHTAG] is the Rule!

Yup basically the same way for me except I'm still not 100% good with using Rayon. It's a learning curve for me that I haven't figured out yet. I do enjoy the taste of my e-liquid with it but like I had to learn with cotton, how much, how little, till I find the right amount.
I've never used a genny before but I have wanted to try one. maybe one of these days.

That was How I started building coils for Evod's. Protanks and T3's.
I converted to cotton ones I could re-wick without re-wrapping.
Then I started boring out holes and wick openings and using a .5 mm larger coil/wick.
the stock kanger silica coils start tasting burned at 7 watts. My New coils can run 10 watts.
And a much looser draw. I can do slow lung hits.

Edit: 1.6 ohms btw.

You can use more rayon in a wick than cotton, because cotton swells up when it gets wet. Rayon is basically all I use now and I just stuff the coils with it and it works great.

I totally agree with Linda. Those little screws drove me crazy then the wicking was near impossible for someone with 1 good hand, sometimes it is good. I have had Multiple Sclerosis for 16 yrs and controlling my body parts are very frustrating sometimes. That is why I choose store bought coils.
DIY is easier with the proper precautions.

LOL. And I have about 497 feet left of Rayon!! I think I'm good for awhile!!:facepalm:

Well, I've pif'ed a bunch, but probably still have 450' :)

Figure I should have enough to make it through the vapocalypse, although if they ban that, we'll gain a lot of support from the beauty shop industry!

Yes, more rayon than cotton in the same ID coil.

That's the nice thing about the KGD and Shiseido cotton pads... they're not going anywhere, as long as women want to use soft expensive stuff on their faces. :D I located a department store nearby that carries Shiseido, so I don't even need to worry about shipping costs. :thumb:

But in reality, winding coils isn't really the hard part. It's getting them mounted on tiny build decks with microscopic screws!

That's why I haven't gone that way. I have spinal cord damage that has left me with very little feeling in my hands. The reason that I had to quit smoking was that I couldn't hold onto a lit cigarette any more - a very immediate health threat.

I looked into buying a bunch of the pre-wrapped coils as vapocalypse prep, but gave up on the idea when I saw closeup pics of the decks. I'll just have to stick with commercial coils, and stock up a lot if it looks like everything is going bonkers.

And on non-rebuildable tanks I'm completely hooked on Anyvape Davides. I use them with single coil heads - they take standard Kanger coils, but they now come with an extra piece that makes them fit BDCs or the Aspire BVCs that aren't the Nautilus ones. The Davides do have a pretty airy draw, which I like but wouldn't suit everyone.

I do. Heavens gifts. Look for vapeonly BVCC they are the same coils that were rebadged in the early days. They have announced they are having a store wide sale starting Monday so I am waiting to see what price they will be. I have just received a batch of the 2.1ohm and they are definitely the right ones. Make sure you use forum coupon codes as well.

http://www.heavengifts.com/VapeOnly-BVCC-Coil-unit-5pcs.html

I forgot. They also have an application for iPhones and iPads. There is an automatic 20% off for the first order through it. :p

Have I told you lately that I love you! Placed an order for 1.8 and 2.1. Did a Copy/Paste for the code: avpforum. It worked. Will buy more during the sale. I cannot thank you enough!!!

For our Canadian friends canvape.com has them. They only ship within Canada.
Vapeonly - Aspire BVCC Replacement Coils
Product Code: VOBVCCOILS

I asked via email:
"Are these the original Aspire bvc style coils with small holes, and silica with no cotton?"
They replied:
"That is right."

Just a proviso I have only personally checked the 2.1ohm. I was told the others were old version but the 1.8 sold out as soon as I mentioned it 200 were restocked so I don't know about them. I was watching the stock levels because I am waiting for the sale and didn't want to miss out  The 1.6 were also there when I bought the 2.1

Heaven Gifts owes you a large commission.

Happy to help. I committed my to gear to those coils and was shattered by the change. I had been rationing the ones I had left so finding them was a huge relief for me as well.

Same situation here with the gear and rationing. I am like a kid at Christmas. All thanks to you!
