It's time...time to step away from the cheaply made mods I've been frustrated with and jump into a device I can grow old(er) with. I have learned in my one year of vaping that I like:
  1. consistent vape that regulated voltage gives
  2. A pocketable device as I am away form home more than I'm there. The smaller the better but need good battery life.
  3. Semi-stealthy and simple - no LCD screens or menus for me.
  4. replaceable batteries, preferably stacked ICR123's / 16340's. I just like the form factor.
  5. I like LR dual coil carto's, either mega or in a tank.
With this criteria I have narrowed it down to the Buzz Pro from Notcigs and the Jokers Edge from Vaprlife but I can't decide.
With the Buzz I like there is an "army" that likes it with lot's of support if needed. The length of the device is acceptable but the diamater is a little big, and that button...does it hold up? It looks so...small, cheap. I also like the connector comes off for easy access to the parts inside.
With the Joker I like the diamater but the length is a little long, maybe not though. I like the idea of their circuitry saving battery life and the fire button sounds awesome. But that dial and sticker look tacky. Does the dial come off? Can you mod it with a screw or something?
Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks

I own a buzz pro ecf version(#1,451) and can shed a little light there. I've never had an issue with my button, granted my buzz hasn't taken a real beating but it's still kicking, no misfires. up to 15 watt limit so it fires dual coils without problems. i should add though that the board and components are glued in place under the top cap and aren't easily removed.
i will add though i have never used a joker.

I feel its necessary for me to chime in on this. I had a buzz pro as my first "mod" and it worked excellently for less than a year. Shortly after I got my buzz, 4 of my vaping friends got buzz/ipros and EVERY single one of them has had some issue or catastrophic failure of some sort. I hate to say it - I really loved my buzz for quite awhile and it did serve me well until it died about two weeks ago.

It also agrivates the hell out of that the owner dropped the price of the buzz to $80 and effectively devalued every buzz pro ever sold. I was gunna sell mine until he did that but now used ones are pretty worthless.

Its a great mod, but its kind of a backyard job at a huge price. Even at $80 I don't want my circuit board hand assembled in the body with hot glue. Especially since the more recent ones I've seen have the adjuster wheels all over the place. The top caps are all ridiculous too - nothing ever sits squarely in any of them. I also had to reglue my button once every few months, other friends had theirs fall completely off.

When they work and don't break, they're not bad. Pretty light and surprisingly durable. When they came out they were pretty powerful but 15w is pretty standard these days.

I really hate to bad mouth it because its an awesome idea and mine did serve me well. I won't be buying another though.

Good to know, Thanks Exodus. I watched a video of someone at Notcigs assembling the Buzz and as she glued the board and the switch in I thought really? that dab of glue is going to hold that switch for 200 pushes a day, 7 days a week?? The hunt continues...

Actually yes, that dab of glue has held without a problem on three different Notcig's APV's :)

It wouldn't be an issue if they could get the spacing around the dial right on all of them. The dab of glue is NOT sufficient in any way for the button, if yours haven't pushed into the body yet then your days are numbered.

No problem.

When the buzz pro first came out it was a major contender and because of its innovative features it didn't really matter that the whole thing was glued together. These days that's not true.

They also increased their repair prices too - my buzz is probably worth ~$40 right now and they want $45 + shipping to replace the PCB. It isn't worth it. All their repairs I've seen come back are usually worse than the original assembly.

So yeah, I'd keep looking unfortunately.

UPDATE: I ordered and received the Joker Edge today and I'm certain I made the right choice. The size, finish and firing button are better than expected and the dial isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I ordered mine without the venting slots. I would suggest to VaprLife they should use a body color sticker and knob with contrasting digits on the sticker for a cleaner look. Also, maybe an EGO connection would be more universal. I'll try to update after a few months with a durability update.

I was also torn between the Buzz Pro and the Jokers Edge. Both I believe are good PVs. I finally decided on the Jokers Edge and am very happy. The deciding factor for me was a few of the comments above and how much sexier the Jokers Edge was. My only concern about the Jokers Edge was of course the blue adjustment button. Now that I've used it for about a month it does not even bother me at all. I can't tell you how many of my vaping friends have not only commented about this PV but they all want to know what it is and want to put their own cartos on it to try out. I'm a happy camper.

A few months have gone by now and I am still impressed with the Joker...
- The finish doesn't have a scratch even though it has been in my pocket every day. The anodized aluminum is tough!
- The button works as new - same pressure and click
- Battery life, for me going through 4ml's a day on a 1.5 DC tank at about 4.25 volts is approx. 12 hours with the AW ICR123 batteries.
- It fires everything I have put on there - no post pulling.

I would highly recommend.
