So I just got my Tornado a few moments ago, and am experiencing a very strange problem.

The cone screws into the battery perfectly. And the Atomizer screws into the battery just fine. The problem occurs when I try to screw the cone on after the atomizer is attached. It just doesn't fit. It feels as if the threads are a different pitch, or almost as if it's cross threading.

I am not sure what to make of this. I have called TW, the gal I spoke with was just as confused as I, and said she'd have someone call me back in the morning.

Has anyone else run into this problem?
Or maybe can help me troubleshoot?

After playing with it for a few minutes, it appears that either the atomizer, or the cone (hard to be sure which), doesn't screw in straight, and the cone is rubbing up against the atomizer as it is screwed on. It even rubbed the finish off the end of the atomizer!

Not sure which component is to blame for this, any thoughts?

I think it's crooked battery threads. I have one that goes on a little crooked but still works. At first I was worried because it felt like I was going to ruin the threads on the cone or the battery but I don't think it's as bad as yours and it works fine. It bugs me that it's not straight, though.

Sounds like either the cone (female) threads or battery threads (male) are buggered, especially if the atomizer/cart appear to be in a straight line coming off the battery. Sucks too, because the cone really tightens up the draw and warms the vapor. :(

Uh, wait I just re-read your original post...

IS the atom perfectly straight coming off the battery? If not, then the inner threads for the atomizer on the battery, or the threads on the atom are buggered.

i think i may be the cone... if i look at the outside of the cone, theres that silver band around the base of it. it seems that the band is crooked, as there is a slightly wider gap on one side between the band and the black body.

i tried whapping it against my desk to straighten in out, but it doesnt seem to budge.

unfortunately i did not order a whole kit. just a battery, cone, and charger. i also only have one atomizer. so i cant mix and match at the moment. but i am 99% sure it is the cone.

if i look down the cone while screwing it onto the battery, i can see it wobble. until it comes to a stop (fully screwed in), a little off center. this tilt seems to correspond with the tilt in between the silver band, and cone body (as mentioned above).

yea, some of the atty i have ( TW, VS, Janty) have diferences that affect how the cone screws on. most of the attys have up to 1/4" movement without the cone on the ego/ SD/ standard 510 battery, and none of the 901 attys do that. i think its because of fine threads and the gap needed for air intake...

when i put a atty on the battery, i move it around to a 'by eye straight'...
and if i miss, i move the cart/atty as i thread the cone down.

i guess u change attys alot? or just switch batterys? i would think any misaligned threads would be a ticket for replacement, it looks like the cone threads are a pressed fit into the cone, and maybe some just need a tune-up with a vise press or rubber mallet against wood.

yep.... CHANNEL-LOCKS! still not perfect, but it screws on all the way, no problem.

thanks for all the help guys!

but now that it's on, I must say, I prefer the draw without the cone. but it just looks so much beter this way!

now if only my new atomizers would hurry up and arrive! the one i'm using is old as dirt.

i'm sure i will too. thanks for the advice. if my channel-locks didn't prove satisfactory, that's exactly what i was planning to do.

right now, i'm just using a cartomizer with an adapter (without the cone). the cone doesn't allow for proper airflow with a carto (due to the sticker). plus the Gold carto looks pretty neat sticking out the end of this thing. so far, i really like this device. but am wondering where my RMV atties are... after all, the Rockies are much closer to CA than Florida is. and if i remember correctly, i ordered the atty's a whole day before my tornado. but i suppose that just speaks well of TW's shipping procedures.

Way to Go TW!
