I ordered a Tornado tank starter kit, and it arrived today. This is my first e-cig. I read the instructions and put it together, but because the instructions said to not force the tank cartridge onto the atomizer, I ended up only pushing the tank up to the two notches that go down 1mm from the mouthpiece part of the cartridge (the black part). I was going to push it all the way, but it slightly felt like I was forcing it, (which the instructions say not to do) so I began vaping with the cartridge 1mm from being pushed fully in. It tasted like burning almost immediately, but I assumed that was just the strong tobacco cart that came with the Tornado-t that I was using, so I tried a flavor. Still burnt tasting. I figured it was probably a bad atomizer, so I tried the other atomizer in the kit. It tasted like burning as well.

I looked at a youtube video, and I saw that the reviewer pushed the cartridge in hard until none of the tank was visible, and the black mouthpiece was touching the black body of the atomizer. It was at this point that I realized that I wasn't pushing the cartridges in all the way. The instructions really shouldn't state that you shouldn't push it in hard, when you kind of have to to get it over the two small tabs that go down 1mm from the mouthpiece part of the cartridge.

So now, both of my atomizers taste quite a bit like burning.

Do you guys think that they are ruined because the cartridges weren't pushed in all the way? Or will the burning taste go away if I vape on them for a while with carts pushed in correctly? If they are wrecked, what are the odds that I am going to be able to get these exchanged for new ones?

Try this. No guarantee, but its worth a try.

Try taking about three or four sharp puffs through the tank system with your finger OFF the battery button. Then resume vaping.

And you're right about pushing the two units together. Its the only way it will work right. When you first place the tank on the atomizer, give the tank part two or three good, solid spins around to get that hole opened up good. I'm even using a sharp instrument to open the hole a bit more. So far, that hasn't caused any problems and the thing is a vaping machine.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

rver, sorry to hear about the leakage.
My wife and I are each using a tank system and neither of us has had any leakage.

AllYourBase. The only thing I can think of - and this is up to you whether you do it or not, but you might try soaking the atty in Isopropol Alcohol followed by a good hot water rinse and then allow to dry completely ... like overnight. You might want to do two or three quick dry burns, blow it out and then put the tank on the atty and try it.

As far as an exchange goes ... I have no idea. I read your original post closely and understand how all this happened. I think if I did call TW and talk to them about this I'd be talking real, real nice (not mad or accusing). Their nice people and who knows, they might change them out.

Either way, I wouldn't let this experience make you give up on the tank. (I'm retired and don't work for anybody, especially no Supplier) I think the tank system is the best thing I've run into in vaping.

Thank you for your support TexasT.

I am a very happy vaper of the new Tank and have so far experienced no leakage.

rver - when you say small leakage around the atty, do you mean between the atomizer and cartridge? Just curious because when I remove the cartridge to refill or check the quantity of liquid left in my tank I do find quite a bit of condensation and small amount of liquid there. This is perfectly normal and not actually a leak from the cartridge.

Thanks
Alex

Miss Wicked, This was actually my thread... and you didn't really answer any of my questions. :)
Anyways, as an update, the burning taste went away after a proper tank full of vaping.
As for leakage, I've had one tank leak and the rest have been fine, I guess it just varies from tank to tank.

Edit to add: And, it wasn't condensation- an entire tank of fluid leaked out onto my nightstand and phone. 3 other tanks have done fine overnight though, so it appears that only a small number of tanks leak out the hole for some reason.

I did the same thing...reamed out the hole more and then took a pair of cutters and carefully trimmed the edges that were sticking out...now performing ok but I'm unable to solve the small leakage around the atty...I believe this tank model needs further improvement.

The biggest improvement needed is in the instructions i think. An explaniation is needed that the tube in the atty needs to pierce the tank. That would solve at least this problem. Trimming of any kind should not be needed.

What I would like to see is a way to take the atty apart so it can be cleaned easily. These things are really expensive ompared to other attys, which is fine as long as they last a long time.

Thank you for your constructive comments bombastinator.

I will be reporting back to the powers that be to see if we can have the manual changed when we do a re-print. With regards to having a way of taking the atty apart so it can be cleaned easily, I am not sure if this could work but I will be sure to put it in the suggestion box and hope that they can figure a way around it.

I'll let you know of any amendments or improvements that are implemented with the TANK.

Hi AllYourBase

How are your atty's getting on?

I had a customer contact me earlier today to report their own method of getting rid of that burnt taste. Please be aware this is not a recommendation made by the company but simply a comment I am passing on. The lady in question had two atty's that, as you have stated earlier in the thread, giving off a very harsh burnt taste and not producing much vapour. She put the atomizer's into a small basin with boiling water and a denture cleaning tablet such as polident or steradent. After a half an hour she then rinsed the atomizer's in boiling water and left to dry. Once the atty had completely dried out the customer had a fantastic, super dooper trooper, vaping Tank atomizer with none of the burnt taste that some of our users are reporting.

I am not saying this will work for everyone or even suggesting that you try it but it has certainly worked for one previously disappointed customer. I am yet to put this method into practice personally but I will certainly give it a go and report back my findings.

That totally works. I boil distilled water (cheap), lay out some paper towels and grab some tongs. I hold the atty with the tongs over a bowl and pour water through the wick end, and hold it until water has run through. I do this several times. When finished rinsing I kind of shake atty over paper towels to get out most of the water. Last, I place atty battery end down (the fat part of cone) on a dry part of the towel, and let dry overnight.
This is a good thing to do when you first get the atty to remove the primer.
Anyway, I ;ove mu Tornado Tank!!! Am a newbie who bought a little m401 from a smoke shop and had an awful time learning how to drip, when to drip, and what was up with that tiny cartridge? I'm glad it sucked, because I now know to appreciate the ease and of use and the quality of this product.:vapor:TG
P.S. I agree that the instructions need to be expanded. TW's site has a video by Scott that really explains how to take those 4 quick drags when tank is running dry, and how to rotate the cartridge when first inserting to make sure that little hole is open.
Good Luck.

mine both leaks and taste burnt on both attys

i blow on the battery end of both and nearly 10 to 15 drops on liquid come poring out
Same here, the atty just fills with juice..outside of the inconvenience, it gets expensive to keep losing juice that way. Mine improved by taking out insert at the mouthpiece end, but imo, they are a very poorly designed product

Tried this. One atomizer survived, one didn't

i agree. at first i said it was the best, well the idea of it is really great but it seems that not all of them work properly. mine is completely unusable. i dont want to waste more money on attys just for them to waste juice. feel like i wasted my money all together.
