I've found this interesting-looking cheap touch switch IC...

HobbyTronics | HobbyTronics Touch Switch IC

Can someone please explain to a electronics-diagram total novice how the wiring would work shown in this diagram. It can be configured for momentary or latch operation and has two independent switches - so is this diagram showing both alternatives?

I would like to know how it would be wired for momentary use.

Help would be very much appreciated.

This diagram shows two switches in momentary configuration (CFG [Pin 5] tied to GND [pin 8]). You would connect pin 5 to pin 1 for latch operation.

Unfortunate that you can't configure it for 1 momentary and 1 latching.

For a single switch you can ignore pin 3, pin 6, and the resistor from pin 6 to pin 1.

Check out this thread, which discusses exactly this subject.

I just re-read what I posted and I realized I may have come off as rude. That really wasn't my intent - I was just hoping to be helpful by mentioning a thread I recently stumbled across. Not trying to say "Use the search feature .....!" I doubt it would have shown up. I think I found it while looking for something not even involving switches.

I didn't take it as rude Boris. CapeCAD's comments so far have been helpful. I checked out the link you gave and that was useful too.

Can someone tell me if my following drawing is getting on-track... or if I'm hopelessly confused with the wiring for this thing?

Bumped!

Can anyone at all say if my diagram would work? (shown two posts back). I've bought the touch switch now and would like to have a go at wiring it up. The vendors' website says: "Simple to use, the only other parts required are a 1M resistor for each input. Simply connect a touch sensor of your choosing to one of the input pins and that's it."

Any comment greatly appreciated.
