I've always washed mine, and soaked either in dental tablets or vodka (more expensive and no difference to me). You can get quite a lot of use out of them that way!
I didn't own either Dental Tabs or Vodka and Vodka just sounded better!
I'm just glad it works and there is no plastic or glue joints to some how damage, like when I used Vodka on mini tanks.

When researching dental cleaning tablets, I found they contain:
Sodium hypochlorite (bleach)
sodium bicarbonate
citric acid
sodium perborate
sodium polyphosphate
potassium monopersulfate
EDTA

Appears to be a lot of ingredients that need to be thoroughly rinsed out!
I would guess the main ingredient that "cleans" the wicks is the bleach, so why not use a dilute solution of bleach? I buy that by the gallon.

I have two coils in rotation now in the same tank.
This is working for me:
Each Saturday evening I rinse out the tank and tip with hot tap water and thoroughly dry them.
I put in a cleaned coil, fill it with juice and set aside for the next morning when Mom gets up.

I disassemble the coil used from the last week, rinse every part in running hot tap water and pat the extra wick and coil wick portion with a paper towel.
I put the wick and bottom portion of the coil with wick in vodka overnight.
The next day I rinse them in distilled water, dry them and reassemble for the next week.

I have two weeks and 30 ml on each coil and they look brand new with no dark spots.
This is even though I gave up on my Mom trying to get her to practice good button pushing technique on the Triton battery.
She starts pressing as she brings it up to her mouth and releases after she takes it out.
As cheap as the coils are, this was a battle I could lose. It's enough that she learned how to use the button.

I am keeping track of each coil to determine it's life span. I am using a Triton coil and one of other brands for the second coil.

I've been trying to see how long two coils will last with weekly cleaning and only Tribeca E-liquid.
Been using one Halo coil and another by a well known company, alternating from one to the other each week.
I have completed 6 weeks on each coil and just started the 7th week on the Halo Coil.
After all I've heard about going through coils quickly, I count myself lucky.
I believe the weekly cleanings and the fact that only a single flavor been used is part of the reason.
Other than the wicks starting to unravel a bit and a very slight darkening of the wicks at the site of the coil, all seems good.
Each coil has had about 90ml of Tribeca through them.
It's kind of fun to see how long they will last.

Stopped the test today. The coils are still going strong, but the Triton Tank sprung a leak around the top metal collar and the clear acrylic nearest the tip.
All I ever did was rinse the tank in warm water and air dried.
It lasted 15 weeks, so I suppose that isn't too bad.
I was just surprised that the coils outlasted the tank.

It's interesting. New coil and new tank.
Mom has increased her e-liquid consumption by half again.
It will be interesting if this keeps up, but for the last two days, she has increased her vaping.

With a new coil (and tank), it tastes better and vapes a bit thicker. When I get a new tank or coil, Halo or another brand, I usually vape it hard (if it's good).

Let's see if she reverts back to her normal consumption. Have you been keeping the nic level consistent? Just wondering...

:)

it won't be obvious when to replace the coil either, it will gradually make less vapor
and might gradually become harder to draw.
you only realise when you change coils and fill the room with vapor how gunked up
your old coil was.

I agree it's often difficult to tell when it's time to change out coils. I'm glad I'm not alone on that. For me though, the tip off is usually more of a slightly ashy flavor rather than a decrease in vapor. Decrease in vapor usually means time to charge the battery for me.

Kept the nic level at 18mg. See no reason to change. She's been smoking for 70 years.
I'm just happy she is vaping now.
It's only been two days, but it will be interesting if her consumption drops off as the coil ages.

how is her overall health compared to when she was smoking? breathing better? sleeping better? record times for the Triathlon?
