Trustfire TR-001 killed my brand 18650 EVIC battery! What gives? Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

So I received my Evic kit in the mail today, and I put the battery in the mod and it worked perfectly. I also received a Trustfire charger, 18350 tube mod, and a IMR Orange 18350 battery. So I set the evic up with the 18650 battery and I am vaping away, then I decided I wanted to check out the tube mod. I took the 18650 tube off with the battery and I stuck the 18650 battery in the charger while I put the tube mod on. I figured why not let it get a full charge before I drain it fully. The battery was on the charge maybe 2 hours.

The battery was getting low the 18350 battery so I took the tube mod off and tried the 18650 battery, and I got nothing.
Then I flipped the battery around, and still nothing. I was .... So I plugged the evic charger into the evic, and it came on fine. When I unplugged it it immediately turned off. Tried this again and same result. So I plug it back up and see if I can use it as a passthrough, the Evic would show the counter like it was vaping but there was no vape. I unplugged it and it shut off.

So what gives? Did the charger kill my perfectly working battery? I contacted the vendor via email and told them the situation, but I have not received a response.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening. I am hoping that I will get another battery out of this. As for the charger, I was a refund, because I will never use a trust fire again.

I bought a TR-001 too, trying to save a few bucks...

First time I plugged it in and charged a couple of 18350's in it, when the charge cycle was complete the batteries had this fine black soot powder all over them and the charger was covered in it...

Almost like it vented a capacitor in the charger... It smelled of burnt electronics... Like someone had released the magic smoke...

These things are not reliable, IMO... I think my story could have ended up a lot worse than it did... At least it didn't catch on fire.

I'm sure not all of them are this bad... But they have inconsistent charge cut outs, and I just haven't heard of anyone that said they were good. My experience with it was bad... Yours is bad...

I now have an XTAR WP2II, and I couldn't be any happier... It charges batteries safely, and that's as much as I would ever ask of it.

Luckilly my 18350's were not damaged in the process... I removed them from the charger and they were not hot or disfigured, and were at 4.21V... I have been using them ever since, and they are working well.

Do you have a volt meter/multimeter? If you do, check the 18650 voltage yourself. It might be the charger, or it might be the evic, or it might be a cruddy battery. Any of the three can be bad. It's a leap to say it must be the charger, based on the limited information.

I've used TR001 for over a year, though I now use 2 XTAR WP2 II. The reasons I went XTAR are a really good charge characteristic and very low discharge rate when power is disconnected -- I use a timer switch that cuts out the AC after 3 hours, something I do for safety.

If you do get a WP2 II, for 18350 batteries you would want to pick up a second set of spacers, about $1. The WP2 II comes with two screw-in spacers, one for each charge bay, but you double up the spacers for 18350 or 16340. Also, if you go WP2 II, when charging an 18650 it is fine to set it for 1A max charge, but good practice is to set it at 0.5A max charge for the 18350s.
