Hey guys... So after making some regular coils for my evod and protank, I tried to make a micro coil just based on youtube videos.
I did 12 wraps with 28g Kanthal wire and the MVP read 1,6ohms.
Then, I put some organic cotton through the micro coil, put back the stem and dropped liquid to keep the cotton saturated.
Tested to see if it produces vapor, everything was ok. Then I filled my protank 2, put the coil inside and let it sit for about 10 minutes to be absolutely sure.
I set it at 8,5W and heard the sweet sound of "firing". Then I tried it...
Oh my god it was horrible... I took 2-3 puffs and it was getting worse by the puff.

I think I did everything as I should, I don't understand why am I getting the burn taste.
Any help?
Thanks and sorry for my grammar mistakes.

At 1.4-1.8 Ohms in a protank yes it will eat up juice much faster than say a 2.8ohm coil. Lower your watts a bit or maybe set your volts to like 3.9-4.1v see if thats any better? I run a 1.4ohm coil in my protank and cant run much more than 4.2v or I start burning up the cotton and that tastes bad, its due to the low airflow. If there was a way to open up the air on the protank to take lung hits then you could run higher watts/volts on that coil but it gets too hot the way it is and is burning up.

Anyhow if you want to try a high Ohm coil, run 30g or 32g wire, do the 12 wraps and you can get that up to 2.5-2.8 ohms and will act more like the stock coils protanks use. Good juice flow is key when using the lower Ohms, one dry hit can burn up your cotton in a flash, no time to react. Every wick will act differently so pay attention to how much juice is getting pulled into the coil or you will be replacing your cotton 5-6 times a day for sure.

Hope some of that helps, keep it up, dont give up you will get this worked out man.

Finding that less cotton is better ...

Make sure you're not using too much cotton. I've used cotton ball wicks and yarn wicks with great results and no burning, but the learning curve was reducing the size of the wicks so they had room to expand when saturated.

The other possibility is you have a hot spot that is burning your rubber insulator, which would produce a burned rubber taste/smell.

I use 30g on a 1/16" drill bit. With cotton ball I press it instead of rolling it and make sure it's a fairly loose fit going through the coil. I wet and roll one end just to thread it initially then pull it through. With yarn I use 3 strands which are still slightly loose once threaded through.

Agree with the comments on the cotton as well. Also, I see that you're using organic cotton, but did you do anything to clean it before using it as a wick? Regardless if it's organic or not, there may be substances left over from the manufacturing process on the cotton. Always a good idea to give it a bath in some hot or boiling water before you use it.
