U-wick mesh on the diagonal?

Honestly, I'm just not eager to waste the amount of mesh needed to cut it on the diagonal for a u-wick. Is it necessary? Who's doing what? Also, how wide of a piece are y'all starting with? (meaning the dimension that gets rolled to establish the diameter, not the finished length) Thanks

Im in the same boat as you dont see the need to waste mesh by cutting it 45 degrees..

Well, ok, so i tried it with a piece of scrap. Tried NOT cutting it on the diagonal. For the sake of thoroughness, I slid it inside a long soft pen spring and slipped some flexible wire inside it. Gently, slowly bent. . . . . . kinked up "like a freight train" going off the tracks.

I cut the mesh the same as I do for a straight wick, just longer. The trick is to then roll it at a 45 degree angle starting with one of the corners.

It's a bit fiddly but saves a bunch of mesh, and bends great.

how big a piece? I saw you said "solid" in the other thread.
