So I started on my DNA20 build and it was going really well until this:
sm3.jpg
Long story short, one of my kids came running through the kitchen while I was soldering, hit my arm and I dropped the iron onto the screen. The upside - it still works just fine. The down side - I now have this ridiculous clearish gold corner on my brand new screen.

I'm assuming it's just the polariser that is burned but it still bugs me. Anyone out there have any bright ideas on how I can at least make it look a little better? It mostly on the outer edge so realistically, I will probably hardly see it. The problem is that I am .... about things like this, I would even be happy if the whole dang thing was the clearish gold color just so long as it was all the same.

Just my luck I guess....

Haven't seen one damaged quite like that.....

So did the glass crack or did the heat from the iron cause the damage?

I cracked one and it worked for a short time then failed....

The glass itself is actually fine. There seems to be a plastic film over the top (a little research says it's a polariser) and that melted a little bit. The iron only touched it for a second and that was enough to melt the very edge. I will grab the wife's camera and try to get a better pic of it.

So the display still show all the information.....if so and it continues to work, just cut out your display hole in the case so the gold won't show...just an idea for ya... or a dab of black paint or magic marker...

It was too small to get a good pic of but here it is under power. I think most will be covered by the edge of the display hole but little things like that bug me. Oh well, I guess it's better than being completely broken.

You can see the light spot on the "W"

Try flipping the screen orientation and see how it looks.....

Right Mode and Left Mode: While locked, holding the fire and up buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds flips the display. This allows for maximum flexibility in designing the mod, as well as accommodating left handed vapers. This setting is stored to internal flash memory, and remains if power is removed. Please note that if using a potentiometer instead of a button, this option is not available. However, it can be set before soldering the potentiometer on during manufacture.

Bummer but lemme tell ya that's a million times better than breaking the screen :p
If it really bugs you, you could ask Brandon if he'll RMA it. Evolv is incredibly generous with returns. Even flat out modder-damaged stuff gets replaced.

If not, you'll have no problem finding a buyer for a slightly damaged but functional DNA20 ...

Since it's my first dna build, I plan to stick it out and I will hang onto it. If nothing else it will give it a little character and a back-story. I've got some machining to do on the box this weekend and I plan to mill out some polycarb to hold the screen/mount the board onto. I will post some pics once it's completed. That will be the true test of how bad it really looks.

I did pull some dimensions from that. Thanks. Basically, I'm going to mill a channel into some poly to hold the display itself. Then I'm going to cut down an overhead counsel lens (we make them where I work) and use weld-on #3 to attach it over the channel. More or less encapsulate the screen. I can just fold the board over and mount it to the back of the poly after that and voila' I have a solid unit. I was planning to make a nice bezel for the outside but since I jacked the screen up I'm just going to mill a .187 x .75 cut-out into the side and mount the screen to the inside of the box. That should minimize the visibility of the (accidental) screen modification I did. :D

I should have some pics to post early next week. Still waiting on a few parts.

Take a torch to it and make it all the same color across the whole screen. :)

I think I got lucky the first time. I'm not intending to follow up that stunt by completely wrecking it.:D

I had the tint idea as well. That may still be an option. I'm going to mock it up in the box and decide from there. I made my screen holder yesterday so I will throw a pic up in a little bit.
