I am not sure if all states have completely reopened like to touristy travel. Fortunately I have not had to worry about my hair, I do it all myself. I was horrified to discover I had WHITE eyebrow hairs, so those had to go, but I needed a good waxing anyway.

Every home should own a set of clippers, really, if you need short hair (the husband's is longer than mine :lol::lol:. IDK. My mom was like, "Oh WV you will be far away from everyone except your little brother." I refrained from stating, "That's okay, l like him the best anyway.) Then, my mom like, said, "Well, I will have to take a yearly east coast trip if COVID ever allows it."

I texted back, "God, mom, don't even TALK that way. Everyone says I had it even you and I am going to be fine. Besides, whether it was aliens the Chinese, the Russians masquerading as the Chinese, or the USA masquerading as the Chinese in order to develop a vaccine with nanobots which we all have to get, or maybe Google or Microsoft is doing it, a nanobot that will control our thoughts, feelings, and actions, surely free travel will be permitted. The World Order relies heavily on tourism, so as long as we watch enough Netflix/Hulu and as long as we dedicate enough time to our Facebook accounts, we will be permitted free travel although we may also have to pay a sin tax to global warming and it will affect our chances of standing in the bread, TP, and milk line, well, we will share. We will be growing vegetables too. Have no fear."

LOL she did not answer that text.

This mixed messaging from the govt is so annoying. I wish we would just get a clear answer.

Given the government's and the scientist's intellectual inconsistencies from day to day, often agency to agency, I think the clear answer is: Neither government nor the scientists know. They are making it up as they go along hoping no one will notice.

@CMD-Ky, I think that ethical scientists who really know that a quarantine of some sorts and the use of BSL3 gear are not being listened to.

And the only issue is that politicians do not have the aptitude and skillset to deal with pathogens, and civillian policing does not or will not enforce any type of quarantine due to the same said issues.

Look. If any government cared about their populace they would have done the sane thing (and I'm sorry I DON'T TRUST epidemiologists, the head one of their little society was quoted several times as "needing to incite a panic, as if panic, in and of itself was good."

Although we do SEEM to be in some kind of futuristic Stephen King novel, this virus is NOT the Stand, although maybe the first few weeks, like, we didn't know much and needed to PANIC! PANIC IN THE DISCO!~ GREAT BAND!

But we know NOW how many people this virus kills who are healthy and I really don't think partisan politics and freaking elections and OTHER crud should be like, used to skew numbers.

I GET IT. But it is an illness to most ORDIANRY people that is less dangerous than the flu. We could bring JOBS here to like, help folks who have to stay quarantined and community spread take its course. AND BY THEN, we'd have a vaccine.

But (certainly in the US) if you think ANY political figure from either party is going to say, "Knock this nonsense off" well they AREN'T they ARE PLAYING A MUTUAL GAME OF COVID CHICKEN UNTI THE ELECTION.

Because they are worried about the outraged few prancing up and down saying "X relative died" like it was someone's FAULT, STUFF HAPPENS. We all die. As to avoidable deaths, it will be interesting to see what deaths could have been avoided if all this half baked poorly executed quarantining happened.

If we were dealing with a REALLY BAD virus we would ALL BE DEAD OR ZOMBIES OR WHATEVER NOW Anyway there is NO stopping community spread except perhaps in areas off the beaten track that people live entirely separate from mankind like underground.

If you quarantine effectively (I'm sorry but the British ARE rule followers) it just kind of makes sense (just like queuing, you EVENTUALLY reach the front) then it only makes sense that once the flood gates open the numbers go UP TEMPORARILY. Then they simmer down. Unless you want to quarantine until a vaccine comes, that is what will happen. IT is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE it is public health and the darn numbers which I TRACK as a public health officer in some capacity they are what you would expect only like super delayed so the media no longer reports on it.

America's worse with the ecig ban if you ask me, so overall AMERICA SUCKS.

I have held back I am DAMN TIRED of my "aunt died." Guess what? I had an aunt that died too and moral outrage can only (I assume) be felt by the LIVING, .so guess what we should all go after and CONQUER DEATH. Then we can all shut up.

I'm not conquering death these times of late are making me look forward to it.

@stols001, the UK has changed drastically from what you believe.

For example social distancing has been laxly practiced by most, you go shopping or wherever and most folks end up that close to you that they're breathing down your neck.

Lockdown or quarantine, yet again most of the public just don't think that it should apply to them and just ignore it.

For example, during the previous lockdown a neighbour decided to let 2 of her sisters stay around hers for over 2 week from 23rd April.

What was done about it, nothing. As the 2 sisters say that they needed to stay there because they had an argument at home. But parents and children argue.

The only way that you were supposed to leave your home address is if your wellbeing is in actual danger.

I even have CCTV evidence of everything, what the neighbour and her siblings have done. And the response of the authorities to it.

Nevermind the civilian police didn't even know what the laws passed even actually meant nor how to apply them, they went for the half 455ed approach. Not what was set out in Statutory Instruments 2020 No.350, which the Police don't even understand to be law.

But the Police don't have the training, aptitude nor inclination it seems to understand law whatsoever.

I think that I'll leave it there, as I want to try and keep my zen on. And think that the universe will make sure that they'll get served what they deserve.

    Yes, keep your Zen on.

It can be frustrating to have "things in place" not be followed.

TBH I have trouble keeping my zen on about the whole thing. I don't mean to cause tumult for you.

We care about our loved ones, we care about society as a whole. Enforcement is difficult.

I will say no more at this point other than, zippy de do dah, as a healthcare worker I am gonna be in line number 2 for vaccine trials.

I am doing it, ,although i will consult my docs first. They might think a medication i am taking warrants caution. I don't even need the vaccine for a year, but as a public health person, I believe vaccines are one of our ultimate goods.

I think China had the best policy @stols001.

Break the rules, threaten the country and you disappear never to be found again.

But with SARS CoV-2/COVID-19, there's so much unknown and very little collaboration to tackle it. As with length of immunity and the mutations arising are of concern, as all it takes is one little mutation and it turns into something much more nasty like what happened with Zika virus.

Sorry, I’d had a little too much caffeine before posting this bio dissertation yesterday. I’ll leave it here for humor and/or educational purposes :-/
    -
Mother Nature keeps ecosystems in check, and this discussion reminded me of terms from my old bio class: biotic potential. When the “carrying capacity” of an area is exceeded for a sustained time, viruses, famine and fighting cull the population and cause “dieback”.

It’s a pretty well documented mathematical curve and not hard at all to predict. One big tip-off that humans are approaching dieback is that the rate of virus mutation is becoming faster. We’re just a better food source in greater numbers, offering more diversity with which to mutate. Most singular strains of a particular virus will mutate down and become less powerful if staved off for long enough, but with biotic potential being exceeded, another new strain quickly evolves to take its place.

I’ve heard a fair argument that slowing the rate of human reproduction would bring the biotic potential of the Earth in check and stave off dieback. That could decrease large scale suffering.

Whether we pull the numbers back or not, it’s cooperation and scientific progress using the one evolutionary tool we’ve been given to win the “race” of humanity: our brains - otherwise nature has the cure.

Zika was a fine specimen. It’s particularly diabolical that it causes damage to our number one evolutionary tool: again the brain. Spongiform Encephalopathy is another diabolical challenge that’s fascinating. And anyone that studies how powerful cancer is, it sure is a seemingly purposeful beast, to anthropomorphize.

Anyway, telling folks that they should be responsible and decrease the birth rate, that’s a taboo subject - just ask Bill Gates.

    Lather, rinse, repeat I guess?

The government is facing an impossible choice.
On one hand a total heavily enforced lock-down would be a potentially effective way to defeat the spread of the virus.
On the other hand the fact that a total lock-down would be the death of the economy. The effect on the economy of what has already happened has been delayed by what I would imagine is heavy borrowing by the government. The UK is already teetering on the edge, even another small push could cause collapse.

Okay the British are polite and break the rules when not looking.

IDK I had a Summer British BF who got a BWI (Biking while intoxicated) because he could not pilot a car. So I don't know where I get that, the mild mannered Douglas Adams hero I guess. He kind of sticks.

I ah actually cannot think of a WROSE person to deal with pathogens.... WAIT! I can! Epidemiologists. They need some retraining I think.
