Geesh! Sometimes I think unions are strike happy (Fr), but I'm glad his union is standing behind him for this one.

He said he was told during his disciplinary hearing that smoking an electronic cigarette was not allowed but it was a new part of company policy and had not been communicated to anyone.

Holy mother of G**!
And I thought I'd seen it all.....

“I was supposed to have been aware of this policy about electronic cigarettes but it was not communicated to anyone. So how am I supposed to know?

Firing an employee over not acting in accordance with a policy that had not been communicated? Huh?

And I most certainly hope that that company does not cite "health" reasons. It is a waste facility, for goodness sake! The employees collect garbage. I do not even want to know what they have to breathe in.....

Excellent point, which just adds to the irony of this whole situation!

Edit: I just noticed your "smoke free" date, Anjaffm. Happy anniversary a few days late!

thank you very much, AgentAnia

And yeah.. that is one of the first things I noticed in that article: a waste facility banning smoking. Uhm.. for the smell? For fear of the quality of their product? Or for the health of their employees who obviously have the much-touted "right to breathe clean air"?

Of course, banning vaping is even much more ridiculous. I'll take strawberry flavor over the smell of rotting garbage any day :D

And third, firing an employee over not following a company rule that has not been communicated. Duh......
