Hmmm. Alright I'm gonna go through and see what I would have bought knowing what I know now. This might take a minute so would appreciate anyone finding this helpful to vote at link in signature as a sign of appreciation.

Links to suppliers are not endorsements of ...... actually I like all the guys I linked to, just a bit sad I didnt get my starter kit from madvapes. Man they know how to pack a starter kit. Looks like the kit you buy after you decide the regular 510 is a'right, but you know you need more battery:thumb:

Starter Kit (you could piece all this together, but a starter kit is a good way to get some variety without having to chase down every little piece)

2 mega 280mAh 510 manual SEALED batt (ask if it doesnt say)
2 2.3 ohm regular 510 attys
5-10 carts (filled or unfilled........think of filled ones as one flavor to try, but dont get hope up. Some of the prefill's are a bit well nasty)
USB charger
AC wall adapter

Anything kit under $50 w/free or min shipping good deal this kit has some extra goodies but this is minimum that should be included plus 60 Day warranty on batteries

5V PT w/510 fitting or adapter (it aint pretty, but it's pretty indestructable any passthru is better than no passthru I just wanted one mister clutz (me) couldnt destroy the first day of use. Honestly dont know why the chinese havent reverse engineered these yet. But hear good things about the new ones out there)
$15-20
2 amp AC/USB adapter (fits charger and works PT)
$10
5-10 3.2 ohm empty cartomizers (these are for PT mainly, but will work on 510)
$10-20
5-10 2.5 ohm empty cartomizers (work better on 510 than 3.2 IMHO)
$10-20

36mg/ml 15ml 100% VG unflavored (I dont want to hear any complaints about unflavored. It's a safe bet. A tad sweet, strong enough to insure you get enough nicotine to avoid analogs if heavy smoker, but most importantly you can use it to dilute the flavors you dont like if you cant afford to waste juice/cartos/etc)
$10
3-5 18-24mg 5ml samples (Still cant recommend a particular flavor and would break the bank to try them all) (Suggest at least 1 (100%VG) 1 (80/20 PG))
$12-20
Pricing will vary greatly but if you are paying more than $1/ml before shipping you might be getting hosed

$120-150 to get more than enough stuff to play with

Could save some money and pare this down if you had too, but this covers a lot of bases for the newb.

If money was no object or I had to insure I could totally replicate the analog experience I'd add j

PCC (This is your new PACK of cigarettes. Almost same size, protects batteries when you are out. Forces you to disassemble for storage. Although would like to hear how others carry around their 510's fully assembled without setting them off. Can handle one in my shirt pocket, but even that is a bit iffy sometimes.)
$20

Guess it's worth mentioning that at the point of adding a PCC to the starter kit you could have $70 towards a good 3.7V Mod with a 1600 or thereabouts
mAh battery. But I'm not about to recommend a mod to a newb, even though I know they are better.

This is the kit I want to give my mom to get her started. Got her the PT first because well, I was using the batteries :D but now I have my mod and she loves the analog form factor. Will probably get her a PCC because I was scared to tote the batteries around willy nilly like I did initially before getting a mod with an off switch. Dont want anything to interfere with her conversion to vaping.

If money is an object. :( Like in my case trying to get three people started at once without know exactly what I was doing much less what the others would end up liking not liking etc then bare minimum would be

5V Passthru $20
2.5/3.2 510 Cartomizers $10
3 5ml flavors $12
2amp AC/USB adapter $10
$52 for a hard to fail kit to get you started at house/office

$10 car adapter can be found at walgreens for mobility in car

Next order when you decide on flavor(s)
2 15-30ml bottles of your flavor(s) $60 max should be closer to $20 but YMMV
2-3 5pks Cartomizers $20-30

Next order when you use up 1 15-30ml bottle
or
Toast half your cartomizers

Hopefully by then you are no longer a newb and can figure out what you need for however long you can afford to bulk purchase items to save on shipping. Shipping will eat you alive if you order 1 then 1 more then 1 more. LOL Bad enough you have to shop around to find all the goodies you need even for a starter set.

Remember to remind smokers who are interested but turned off by the initial cost that even at the highest end of this starter kit costs are less than $200. At $40 bucks a carton (ok admittedly some pay a lot more) thats a months worth of 1 pk a day for enough stuff to keep you happily vaping for a long time depending on personal habits and how vaping changes your habit. Do not make it sound tooo easy. I love my vape so much, but have to remind myself when showing off, that there is a step learning curve to making these work flawlessly for you on a daily basis. Everyone is different, but think with this set up even the most techno challenged among us could really flush out what we want/need from our vaping experience.

Well- a lot of this is subjective. My perspective as a 3 pack a day former smoker is...

Personally I would *start* with an eGo or eGo variant, three batts, 5 to 10 carts, 60ml of juice in various flavors, a few extra 510 Joye atomizers, and eGoMega Atomizer (with a couple cartridges), and MAYBE a pass through.

I went through all kinds PVs. A bunch of crappy website stuff. Then some good stuff: Eluma (DSE901/902), Joye 510, eGo, and eGoMega.

To do it over again, I would start at the eGo, and expand from there.

Bigger is always better. I think the form factor of the 510 manual is so easy to make the transition as long as you get the 280 mAh batteries. For the life of me I dont know why they still sell the 180 mAh batteries, but I guess they are dancing with the one that brought em.

When I looked at the replacement costs for eGo and even the mega 510 batteries I decided then and there to find MY mod and get real batteries. But wouldnt feel comfortable suggesting a mod to the newbs. This stuff is hard enough to figure out without having to discuss battery do's dont's and all that.

Plus the form factor thing is a big advantage. Instead of some strange new toy, you've got an analog to an analog. Anything to make it easier to switch and learn the tricks of the vape.
