A friend of mine went to HK and brought me 4 of these. Can I use them safely in a mech for >1.0Ω coils?

Low reocurring operation cost.Short-circuit
and over current Protection,Sheef-life around

Rechargeable Battery With
Re/Discharging Protection Circuit

Everything above is (sic); punctuaction and misspellings included.

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but do they seem real to you? Also, the mentioned "protection", what is it? D

Ultrafire batteries are some of the most counterfeited batteries out there. Because of that you don't really know what they are. IMO they are ICR chemistry which is dangerous to use in a e-cig. The protection circuit is there because they need it. When they vent they burn, unlike the newer IMR and hybrid safer chemistry batteries.

Here's a video I found when I Googled 'UltraFire®
BRC 18650 3000mAh'. It didn't surprise me.

I would not vape these in any device, regulated or mechanical. I would actually not even use them in a flashlight. Just not worth the risk IMO.

I agree with the above. "Never trust a battery with 'FIRE' in the name". All of these lesser name brand batteries (Surefire, Trustfire, Ultrafire, etc) are poor quality, bottom-of-the-line batteries.

Add to that the chemistry factor. Protected ICR (Li-Ion) batteries were recommended as of a couple of years ago because uninformed people believed that they would be safer than unprotected IMR (Li-Mn) batteries in a mod. A lot has changed over the last two years. Now battery experts recommend using IMR and/or IMR/hybrid batteries over protected ICR batteries because of their safer chemistry and better performance. (Don't be fooled by the stated mAh ratings of some batteries.)

In this day of modern battery technology there is no reason to still be using ICR batteries. Especially in a mod. Thank your friend for his gift but dispose of the batteries.

Guys, many thanks for confirming my suspicions. My friend closed a plastic bottles factory to Chinese competition a quarter century ago, and he heeded the ancient advice: he joined them! Now he is an importer. When I griped about difficulty about finding stuff in Mexico, he told me he was going to mainland China and HK in a week and he'd bring some for me. I asked for Efest 2500 but the electronics shop guy convinced him to take the reds as better and with a lower price. Also in stock. ;) Not unlike to what I've experienced in NY's 6th Ave shops!
Maybe I can find a dive light that takes 4 18650s? I'm going to the Belize Blue Hole in July. :)

PS, I have a pair of purple Efest 2500s and four more in the mail (from a reputable US store). The reds are stored half charged, as they arrived but I'm disposing of them through the dangerous residue collection service all car dealers in Mexico are bound to pay. I cannot "place them in the dust bin" as a UK vaper said in another thread! ;)

Either put a cup of salt into a bucket out in the yard and fill it with water FD, then carefully drop the batteries in. Give it a couple of weeks or so and they will be totally dead and then they can be safely put out with the household trash as will be completely inert. Or if you want to save yourself a cup of salt, wait until the Belize trip and drop them overboard on the way out to the Blue Hole.

Aaaaaaargh! Have you just suggested polluting the oceans (even more) to a diver? Why don't I just drop them in our fresh water supply? Couldn't be more contaminated. ;)
Many thanks for the NaCl tip, comes very handy. At work we have a collection service by the ton. We just separate it.

I'm not even sure if "Ultrafire" or "Trustfire" makes batteries Anymore?

They have been Cloned/Knocked-Off and Sold for Next to Nothing for so Long, I think the Original OEM just Gave Up.

Baditude, many thanks (again) for the links, and an apology for neglecting to do a decent research on the forum before starting the thread. My error was to do a search with the battery characteristics and failing to do a thorough browse of the stickies.

I see you're the head battery honcho here. I've been adding a few e-pipes to my collection of tobacco ones. As you're surely aware, they're extremely limited in battery choices. Only ..350s. Some of them (usually very backordered) can accept a "Crown" (a Kick of sorts).

Suitable batteries are scarce here but I found these Efest IMR 18350 800mAh. Are they a decent choice or should I try buying in the USA? This guy I know and puts the goods on my door next day. Any USA shipment will be $21 (USD) at least and take a couple of weeks unless I use UPS which is $37 and one week. The other alternative is ebay and take my chances with counterfeits.

@ ForeverDiver:

I prefer AW IMR over Efest IMR, myself. But you have the same issues with counterfeiting, especially with Ebay as the source.

AW recently adopted a new sticker which is a hologram AW to try to stemmy the counterfeits. Note the "RoHS" of the authentic AW's; many of the counterfeits have "ROHS" ( all the letters are the same size ).

FAKES! AW does not make nor ever made a flat top IMR battery.

Yeah... That's what I thought.

And as I recall, Volcano e-Cigs kinda got Egg on their Face when the Mini Lavatube came out. And it came with AW 18350 Flat Tops.

BTW - That seller isn't the Only One Selling those AW 18350 Flat Tops. I have seen them a few Places.

Many of them on Ebay and Amazon. ALL of the AW batteries on Alibaba are fakes, probably the origin of the fakes found on Ebay and Amazon.
