Similar story here. The wife and I are child free by choice. We do a lot of volunteer/rescue work with dogs. That fulfills us just fine. We never felt the call to breed. Nothing against kids, or those that have them. Our friends all have them and we get along just great, but it's sure nice being able to hand them back to mommy and daddy when the evening is over.

Likewise. I bear no animosity towards those who have kids and can provide full and loving upbringing for them. I have no tolerance, however, for those who have kids, then neglect or abuse them. As I'm positive most people don't. Working with CASA, though, has given me a slightly cynical view of parenthood. I always need to remind myself that the vast majority of parents are good and loving people, but it's hard when you see the results of those who are not.

I like that answer. My wife and I get that a lot. "When are you guys gonna have babies," "Any grandkids for us yet," "Breed, breed, breed! You're not fulfilling your genetic imperative!"

We just want to be the best parents we can be to our dogs and cats and live our lives without that additional stress. We both volunteer with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) helping kids in the Texas foster care system, though we don't have nieces/nephews yet. My CASA kid is a great 15-yr old girl of two ....-head parents both doing jail time for production and distribution, my wife's is an 11-yr old Autistic boy whose parents abandoned him by a supermarket dumpster. When he was 8. He doesn't even remember their names. With kids like that in such need of adult guidance and compassion, it feels selfish to have our own. We love our CASA kids, don't get me wrong, but when they get forever homes we can help two more, then two more after that. I find this more fulfilling than blindly contributing to the surplus population.

Sorry, end rant.

KUDOS to you-that's the same volunteer work I do as well. I had five cases up until August, only have one left and the poor kid will more than likely age out. I may take a few more in spring but the case I have left really took a toll on me.

As you know, it's challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Has any of you had any issues with the coil coming off when you remove the tip? I have a tank that's been doing that. Changed coil and tip, it still happens. Any ideas?

I've read this three times and can not figuring out what your saying. Do you mean when you unscrew the tip, the coil "unit" comes off too? The only thing I can think of is that the coil isn't being screwed down tight enough?

Yes. Sometimes it's the fit of a particular tip. I definitely have some tips that fit much more snugly than others. When that happens, the coil will sometimes get loose. I make it a habit to verify it's tight and, if necessary, re-tighten it every time I fill.

It's happened to me, but I just tighten the coil, replace the tip and move on.

Right on, AngiBe! I know what you mean, I had a case age out on me. I met him when he was 14 and worked with him for 4 yrs, sweetest kid ever IMO, but he had some troubles that seemed to put people off for some reason. We got along great, though, and are still friends two years later. He's in school at UT-Austin and we hang out every now and again. And five cases?!? At once? I can handle two, but I think more would be emotionally exhausting.

Aviationrich- Always bringing us back on topic. I've never had that happen, but I didn't want you to feel ignored. I'm sorry. :(

That's exactly what's happening. The coil is all the way down.

And I assume you've made sure the 'condom' is snug against the coil. I can't see any other way this could get bound up. Perhaps you've been gnawing the tip too hard and deformed it? The clearances are tight inside there. ???

I've had it happen a few times, but never had to replace anything... When you put the coil in, make sure it is snug, then screw the tip on. Get the tip snug, then unscrew it a bit to see if the coil follows. Sometimes the coil wasn't straight, other time it was too loose, or I tightend the tip to much.

The insides of those tanks and the coils are really hard to work with if you have large or shaky hands.

I so admire you and AngiBe for what you do. It is so sad to see what some parents do to their kids. I have several kids that call me mom. Their parents just are not involved with them or they are on drugs. I go watch these kids in their sporting or talent events be there for them. Most of the time they come to the house to hang out and talk awhile. I have a few that their parents are bad on drugs and these kids know they can come to my house to just be safe any time day or night. They know where the key is and they are welcome anytime. I woke up one morning to find one boy and his toddler sister were here asleep on the couch. Some people should not be permitted to have kids. It just breaks my heart!

I will never take that many cases again, trust me. We just had a flood of them come in and our director really needed help. I was in court literally every other week. I had 2 cases we had to do emergency court hearings on constantly. It was awful. My last case who will age out will more than likely need to be in a in-house resident program for the remainder of his life. The chances are very slim for him to live independently.

But don't want to damper the mood here. I would like to know everyone's prediction on the Super Bowl. I think mine is obvious ;)

Ok, so Ive now been in love with my Halo Triton's since Christmas ( I was a pack a day skeptic until my husband got us the starter kit for Xmas). I love it so much that I even got the v v batt and a second starter kit ! And now that I've been without an analog since 2 saturday's ago, I'd like to get one of those little "Ive been an ex- smoker" poster's for this forum so I can keep up with it better (and it seems like a good idea to keep myself strong--that constant reminder of how far I've come). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hey there, and welcome to Planet Halon! Click on any one of our banners (they're all linked to source) and make your own. And super happy congratulations!!

EDIT: You'll have to go into Settings and Edit Signature once you get the BB Code for your banner. Forgot about that part. :)

You probably don't even realize the comfort you're giving those kids especially when they just need a safe place, normalcy, comfort and peace.

And ya, I'm astounded by what I see. I have very thick skin, not very mushy and cry maybe once a year and I think because of being this way has helped me not literally fall apart at what I've seen or witnessed through these cases.

And, out of all my cases I've ever dealt with, 80% are because if drugs. The parent or parents can not get clean.

Welcome and congrats!!,

The easiest way is look at others that you like and you can click on most of them and it will walk you through to get your info. (I.e. Quit day, how much you smoked) But it's been awhile for me so I forget how it uploads. It show steps on how. ECF has one of their own and that's what I used.

Okay, happy talk again. Super Bowl predicitions... well, I grew up in Littleton, CO, so I've always been a Broncos fan. I'm gonna have to go with that.
