Hi - I have been lurking for 2 weeks and finally joined today. First, I want to thank everyone for all the helpful information on this site! My husband and I made a total transition to vaping as soon as our batteries were charged and we have now been smoke-free for 4 days.

We both have RIVA 510s, and are sharing a 30 ml bottle of 14 mg "Hotel" PG from Liberty-Flights (we were pack-a-day+ for 30+ years and had tried EVERYTHING to quit smoking). After realizing that we really could do this, I got panicky about supplies and went to order more juice and 2 more RIVA 510 kits for backup. Unfortunately, "Hotel" was out of stock, so I ordered another flavor. Then I read about Backwoods Brew and also ordered from there. I also ordered empty cartomizers from LiteCigUSA and I received them today (very fast!). My husband is much better with the standard cartridges, but I was making a big mess and had juice everywhere. I think now that I was probably being too aggressive and trying to "smoke," but in any case, I am doing great with the cartomizer tonight.

Meanwhile, I watched our single bottle of juice diminish, and got scared that we'd run out before any of the shipments arrived. So.. we went to the cigarette shop and they sell only one brand of juice called Cloud 9 (the US company, not the UK one). We bought a sample 6-pack for an outrageous amount of money, but the important thing to me was that I at least knew of a local place for emergencies.

Here's my problem.. Over the course of a few hours, I tried the Cloud 9 Strawberry, Cherry, Chocolate, Vanilla and Tobacco. They all tasted the same to me (no taste), even though each smelled like they should out of the bottle. Menthol was definitely menthol and I didn't like that at all, but I never liked menthol cigarettes.

So is it just me or is that juice old or stale or ? Do people really taste the different flavors?

Hello, welcome, and congrats on getting off the analogs. I don't know about Cloud9, as I have never purchased from them. in the top link of the forum , hit the forum suppliers. These are all of the registered vendors that ecf has tried and approved and somewhat monitor. I can guarantee that juice has flavor. some are better than others, but taste is subjective as you know.
Most ship really quickly, ususally receive in 2 -3 days from ordering. Take a look at freedomsmokeusa or Velvet vapors. I use these vendor and they have great juice with loads of choices.
Good luck.
:)

ps. It is possible that you have overloaded your taste buds. It happens to a lot of us, especially when we first start vaping. When that happens, i gargle with warm salt water. for me it works.

A pack a day for 30 years? Yeah, that will do a number on your taste buds! Not to worry, shortly your sense of taste will return. I also ordered from Backwoods Brew when I first started, not realizing that their flavors tend to be on the subtle side and so I couldn't taste a thing. The good news is that BWB flavors become more flavorful if you let them age (steep) for a few weeks. By that time your sense of taste should be coming on strong and you will really enjoy what they have to offer. In the mean time, you could try some stronger flavors from other vendors. Like you, I wasn't crazy about menthol but I did like mint which was really strong.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If I, and I do, vape all day continuosly, and after a couple of hours the juice all taste the same to me also, and it does'nt matter who I buy the juice from. If I don't vape for a 1/2 hr. and go back, then I can taste the flavors again. This is frustrating to me so I am try to lay it down after vaping for 5 or 10 min's then go back to it for 1/2 hr. or so. The only thing that I taste all the time, is methol and I don't like it either.
Another thing that works is to vape just PG/VG (no nick juice) that you can make up yourself with 70%PG/30VG, and vape that in a cartomizer or cart between the 1/2 hr before you go back to the good stuff. You can add a little flavoring to the PG/VG if you want some taste. HOPE this helps.

Most of eliquid flavor is aroma. The tongue can only sense sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami (MSG). Good fruit ejuices will give you tongue the correct amount of sweet/sour for that fruit along with the correct aroma. If you don't smell the vapor or if the aroma is incorrect or not present then no fruit flavor. To be fair, some fruits have similar flavors and aromas and when we eat them the visual and the texture add to our sense of the flavor. But with well-made juices loaded into a clean atomizer, the combination of flavor and aroma should invoke the fruit it is meant to be.

Never heard of Cloud9

Your taste buds could be messed up (they come back), and your sense of smell could be off, but you say you can smell them in the bottle. Try blowing the vapor out of your nose. That can actually help you taste it better. It sounds weird, but it does work. I've not heard of Cloud 9. Could you taste your original juice? It's possible that this brand is very subtle in flavor. Subtle flavors can be frustrating when you're first starting out with vaping. I've been told that once your taste buds heal, it will be better. For now, I order all juices with double flavor when possible. Good luck!

This is starting to make some sense to me, thank you to everyone!

I am so clueless and new at this that I don't really know what I am tasting, even from the one called "Hotel" - maybe it is just nicotine? Whatever it is, I like it, so I'm not going to worry about being able to taste anything at this point, and I am absolutely only going to order from the vendors recommended from everyone here.

I looked up Cloud 9 and it sounds like it's a one-person operation on the east coast, the last post about that brand was a few years ago, so that might be how old the juice is too. I'll have to keep looking at other smoke shops to see what might be available locally for an emergency.

Thanks also for the congratulations on quitting smoking. We are both still in shock and very happy. My husband just said before he went to bed, "I like this stuff way better than smoking." He's been through the mill with quitting and his employer even made him get a coach that called him every day to nag him about smoking (which in turn made him want to smoke more); and I can't even talk about what happened to him on that Chantix stuff, it was a nightmare. I tried all the nicotine replacements (with zero luck) and a short stint with Zyban which caused me to cry uncontrollably for 2 weeks for no reason, while smoking more than I usually did.

In 4 days, I've only had one very strong urge to have a cigarette and that was after I told my mom what we were doing. Her response was "those e-cigarettes are very dangerous, I saw it on TV." I explained to her that if the Nicotrol I tried could be heated with a battery, it would be the exact same thing. Thankfully instead of smoking, I chain vaped until my head hurt.

Sorry for rambling - this is all very exciting to me, I hope to keep learning more!

You will learn and learn and learn. Have you watched the videos at the top of this new members forum? There is a set by MistressNomad that are really good. One of them is about DIY e-juice. She gives some really good tips about making your own juice and what you need. It's really easy. You may not be ready to do that yet, but sooner or later it would certainly alleviate the problem of trying to find an emergency supplier locally.

Good luck...but it really won't take luck...just a little tiny bit of determination. The rest is soooooo easy you won't believe. I know how you feel at that stage.....it's almost too good to believe. Well...it's as good as it seems. Better. It's the one thing that actually works. Do a search and check out some of the thousands of success stories. E-Cigarette Success Stories

Your taste buds will come back soon and it'll get better. My first favorite juice vendor was VaporBomb.com. They were (are) great and I fell in love with their Blueberry and their Peach.

Keep us posted.

One strategy I found that worked for me was to have two rivas going at once. One with a carto full of strong nic.....say 24mg and another with a flavor you like in 18mg or 12mg. Hit the strong nic one when the urge to have a smoke is very powerful. Use the lessor nic for regular vaping. Buy some boge 510lr cartos from madvapes. they really deliver the flavor, vapor and TH. better than regular cartos. I just order 4 more boxes of them for my rivas. Wouldn't use anything else. Good luck to you and your husband.

Peach sounds wonderful, I just ordered some - thank you. I have been reading everything and watching some videos, but the idea of making my own sounds overwhelming today, I can't even go there.. yet.

I'll patiently wait for the day I can taste something. I am so hoping it was just old/inferior juice. I hope I can report back with good news soon :)

Thanks base234, I was happy to make it through that - I think I probably won't be telling too many others about what we're doing until I'm more secure about it. You'd think after spending the last few decades being glared at for smoking, I'd be used to the negative stuff.

Mohawkx, that's a really good idea and I will order a bottle of stronger. Thank you!

Congrats and welcome!

When I first started four some months ago, I had the hardest time with flavor, I jumped all over this forum like flame to the brush about how I couldn't taste anything. The problem was, the first one I order tasted AMAZING, then BAM no flavor for almost two weeks.

Two things, that have already been mentioned, but to re-interate: Taste buds need to heal and come to life, and we actually vape too much sometimes that it diminishes the flavor to the point we can't taste it. As someone suggested, lay off for 20-30 minutes then go back, but also remember to drink lots of fluids when you chain vape because the vapor can dry you out some! PVs are designed to heat up, be drawn off of 3-4 times then allowed to cool. When we chain vape, they can get too hot which burns the liquid too fast resulting in poor-to no flavor, so just set it down for a few, even if you are exicted! lol

We all do it, we've all wanted to just keep vaping until we can't vape no more because we've finally taken control over what has controlled us for so long; you are not alone in your actions or your feelings. Be excited and remember, there is always someone here who will listen, no matter what you are saying :)

DIY isn't as overwhelming once you get into the flow of the equipment and have a better grasp on all the terms. I was very, very scared to do it, but now I only buy my nicotine from vendors because I can make exactly what I want! Down the road you'll become more comfortable and give it a shot, I think most people do :p

Again, welcome!

With flavor loss...drink tons of water. You need to keep hydrated as vaping will dehydrate you and you won't know it until the symptons hit you all at once. I went through this also. Lots of water...I can't stress this enough. Water helps to keep you going and your buds tasting. It will also help to clear the gunk out of you faster. Your buds will return to normal but have patience...I know it's hard to do. Don't overload by trying too many flavors the same day. 3 flavors tops. Eating some crackers will also help to cleanse your mouth especially when changing flavors but above all...drink!

nerdbox, I think you described exactly what I'm doing, that's so true about the feeling of taking control over something that controlled us.

I noticed the dehydrated feeling within the last few days, so I'm trying to remember to drink water. I was someone who couldn't smoke without having something to drink (Mountain Dew) and I didn't feel like that with vaping, so I think I also was drinking less fluid on top of everything.

Today I am trying to put the thing down for 30 minutes at a time. It isn't easy!

The advice and support from all of you means so much to me, and on top of that, everyone in this forum is so incredibly nice - that's so rare online!

I can taste flavors - yay - I just had bad juice.

I tried a 100% PG in Apple yesterday, which was mild. Today I received my order from VaporBomb and they included a sample of 50/50 Pina Colada and that's exactly what it is (almost too good). Going to move on to Peach before the night is over.

Thanks again everyone, who'd ever thought that quitting cigarettes would be so much fun.

P.S. to hairball, I am going through water like crazy, I am so glad you wrote that, thank you
