I wonder how many people will punt when their bill comes in. Also, it'll be interesting to see how the price of silver sways during the long production time.
That said, I don't see the problem. This is more a reaction to the market and actually a small sub-segment of the market. It won't affect anything else and it's not indicating anything other than a modder with a fanbase giving that fanbase what it wants, an expensive and exclusive collectors mod.
There's actually a much larger middle ground than there used to be and there are still plenty of cheap devices being churned out of china.
I'm sure there will be 75+ people drop out on the list, but there's already 100+ people waiting as backup. You make a valid point about silver fluctuation in price, might be a concern; I didn't even think about that. Pedro hasn't stated the finalized price, he just put a estimate of 2000 euros. Plus, he'll probably keep updating the price as production rolls through the list of 333 being made.
I agree with you about it not affecting the vape industry at all. This is not your average all day vape device you're taking everywhere with you. The people buying them are interested in a collector's edition mod produced by one of the best manufacturers out there and also as an investment. I'm sure most of the people buying the silver edition are between the age group of 30-50+ with a middle income job.
None of the various mods are going to be raised in price from a result of Pedro selling a silver edition Caravela for $2650+. If mods raise in price, it'll be for other reasons: economy, supply & demand, performance, design, etc.
I must say China has really been stepping up their game in high-end clones. They are taking this business more seriously and listening to what the market wants. Great for competition and I don't think it affects genuine mod sales at all like you stated. If it does, it's probably like 5% or less of their sales their losing.
