So I've been trying to understand tanks and cartomizers more- so far, this is what I've garnered:

tanks are basically liquid holders that consistently saturate cartomizers/atomizer heads (the sponge/bridge parts) so that we can vape longer before refilling, and good tanks/cartomizers/etc. are ones that don't dry out, are constantly saturated and so forth. I'm assuming that cartomizers/atomizers must be changed every flavor.

What I don't really understand is the changing of cartomizers into tanks.

Do we just use normal cartomizers (the ones we can vape directly with), punch holes, and put them into tanks? Or do we need special ones that are specifically made for tanks?

I suppose my arching question is: when I buy tanks (for example, 510 connection ones), I can buy any sort of 510 cartomizers, punch holes in them, and put them in my tanks to use?

And drip tips are usually for use with atomizers to directly refill it and not have our mouths burn from the heat of directly hitting the atomizer. But drip tips can also be used with tanks that use cartomizers? Simply as a mouth piece? We cannot drip with a tank that uses cartomizers, correct?

Am I on the right track?

You can buy special cartomizers with holes in them for use in a tank (which you cant vape when there not in a tank!) or punch your own holes in normal cartos that don't have any
there are different sizes of cartos (normal - xl - many other sizes and types)
for example, a normal size 510 carto won't fit in an XL tank without a long drip tip or extender
an XL carto will fit in a normal size tank but will stick out at the end.
if unsure if a carto is the right choice for a particular tank, ask the vendor or ask on the forums!

indeed, drip tips are basically mouth pieces
you're on the right track, keep on vaping!

This is awesome, thank you so much!

Also, not trying to sound like a creeper, but the pictures of your setups are amazing.

You are welcome. No fear of being a "creeper", I'm proud of my collections and that is why I link the photogallery in my sig, to inspire new tank users on how they can create their own personal setups to their liking.

Just wanted to thank you, Baditude, for your review of the IBTanked tanks. Thanks to your review and research, I got my first kit today and I'm really enjoying it. It was a bit of a learning curve, but thanks to your post, I already had an idea of how the whole thing worked and how to put it together and start vaping with it. Really answered a lot of questions for me.
