I have a VV box that needs a new 510 connector. Everything from the switch to the 510 connector is swamped in hot melt glue. Any tricks and tips on getting that glue out in order to replace the connector?
A drop of isopropyl alcohol will fix that. Electronics industry uses loads of this stuff and it's the only way I know to get it off. It doesn't melt, just separates from whatever it's attached to.
You can heat glue locally using hot gun or, say, pluck out by a screwdriver. First heat up the glue a little. Also a drill bit can help.
P.S. Hotglueing everything inside is bad practice, now you know
Use a small heated screwdriver to "cut out" the majority of the hot glue, just don't get too close to the plastic with it. Then use a razor knife or exacto to do the delicate surgery.

When I was replacing hot glue with JB Weld on my 510 connector, I just used an xacto knife and carefully cut it away. Remember, don't apply too much pressure in any direction, if you break through the glue and you are putting too much force, you'll slide right into something else (hopefully not a finger).
Needle nose pliers are a modders best friend. I have a mod that I built for a friend that needs resurfacing.. they got juice in around the connector and it's not making a good ground with the Camel Snus tin now. Oy vey
I recommend the benzomatic micro torch, really handy little tool. Comes with all sorts of tips for soldering, hot knife, hot air blower. You can use the hot air blower attachment to slowly heat up the hot glue and scrape it away until it all comes off. Using the torch straight up is a little too much heat and harder to control without holding it far away from the part. Shop BernzOmatic Soldering Torch Head at Lowes.com
It's also great for repairing plastic parts. Clean both parts of break with alcohol, use soldering tip or hot knife to melt the two pieces together/fold the plastic over the opposite side.
