I've done this discovery about unflavored e-liquid about two months ago. Not bad at all, at least you should consider unflavored as one more flavor to try. for now however I mix 80% of unflavored with 20% of flavored (e-liquid, not flavoring). I get very subtle flavor which is good for me. And my eGo Mega Dual coils just keep working and working for weeks w/o any cleaning.

I've been doing pretty much the same thing most of the time for some months-- mostly unflavored all-PG liquid with maybe 10-20% tobacco flavored doubler added for just a dab of flavor. I occasionally enjoy completely unflavored, and only rarely go through phases of vaping fully flavored e-liquids. I think unflavored is something everybody should at least try once, if for no other reason than preparation just in case the FDA gets its hooks in our pastime and does something crazy (but predictable) like banning the sale of flavored liquids.

I'm going to keep unflavored in this carto till it gets unvapeable and I might just switch to unflavored but if I don't learn anything else from doing this, next time I go to mix any flavors.. I'm going to start with an unflavored base and add drops one at a time and go from there.

As Swedishfish asked, what size/kind cartos are you using?
I went from these:
KR808d-1 Blank Cartomizers
to these:
iGo Cartomizers

The Igo cartos are great because you can easily remove the stuffing to wash it throughly.
I use one of these for at least a week before I wash it. I'm only vaping 2 flavors at the moment. Hypnotic Mist and Vanilla Cupcake. They don't gunk up the coil as much as a chocolate would.

I do have the echo-e cartos, probably the same as the igo except 510. When they first came out they supposedly are able to be cleaned and reused 100x. They are meant to be cleaned. Bill in the suppliers section has dual coil echo-e and igo cartos. I have a couple but haven't tried to clean them yet. I might try to clean them tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes.

I think every person that wants to try their hand at diy should start out w/flavorless ejuice. It is not flavorless, and I'm really enjoying it. I am doing a 75/25 pg/vg @12mg nic, all from rts. I have already refilled my ce2 as I can't stop vaping it.. And it will give me a better idea of what I'm adding to it. I was having a hard time working w/the flavors. My mistake ~ starting in the middle, when I should be starting at the begining. Thank you for this thread. It was there when I needed it most, lol...

I'm using the exact same ratio for the same strength. I made the same mistake.. I started by using a high percentage of flavoring. After using the flavorless for a couple days I now feel that I have a much better understanding of what I would need to get what I want. Even when/if I do go back to mixing in flavors, I'm definately going to keep using my unflavored mix most of the time. I have been really bummed about my recent atty deaths but this new found discovery has more than made up for it! I wish I would have started diying this way in the beginning.

I tried unflavored this weekend and really liked it. Got some fresh nic (pg) and VG from RTS. Later I tried different cartos loaded with flavors and found the flavor overpowering.

Question: what is the best way to mix nic base with vg to ensure it is throughly mixed? I assume shaking like heck works. Anybody come across a cheap device that shakes or vibrates for you? Does applying moderate heat help to desolve the two together?

I vape unflavored when I lose the ability to taste flavors which is not often since I started lowering the flavor % that I use in my juice. I find that with many flavors that people think are just horrible it is probably because they are using way too much. A good example is the PA Caramel Cappuccino. If it is mixed above 1% it is the worst thing that I have ever tasted. I use it 1 drop flavor to every 10mls and it is one of my favorites :)

I started doing this just to see how long I could make a carto last.. so far I'm on day 3 and it still tastes and performs pretty much like it did when I first filled it. Usually by this time I'm done with it. This has a clean, clear kind of flavor that is still sweet. I had to mix in a bit more of PG because I've found that I'm feeling the nic so much that my stomach is a bit upset. I've been using a little less than 10.. I mixed this at 12mg to start with but found it's too high.

what I didn't expect was that I would like it so much. I really think that I've been using way too much flavoring in my mixes and that all I need is just a drop or two.

I made this last nite and I think I'm in Love, LOL. Thanks Salemgold and Donnah :)..
This is what I made
10 ml @ 12 mg nic 75/25 pg/vg. I then added 1 drop of caramel cappuccino from PA and 5 drops of vanilla swirl from PA. It is sooo good.. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me I am discovering that less is more. This is pretty close to what I used to buy from Vermillion River ~ caramelized cappuccino but so much better. Because it is still clear it will be much easier on my ce2's and carto tanks than the store bought is.. I am a very happy camper/diyer :) :).

I think that what happens to many of us is that when we first get off of analogs, we can't taste much and order the flavorings strong. Then just keeping it that way after our tastebuds get better............

Even though I am bummed that my favorite attys are all dying premature deaths.. I am so super excited about this! I'm on my 4th day with the carto full of unflavored juice and it still tastes the same as it did the first day! I'm eager to start trying to add a bit of flavor to see if less is really more. But I can't keep up with much more than a couple cartos at a time so I'm going to continue with the unflavored and see how far it takes me. My bottom feeder that I was using for this carto has died so I'm having to top fill it, I'm using a syringe instead of dripping down into the filler and keeping it good and slushy. the filler is still a pristine white. I'm not using the unflavored exclusively... I've also so got another carto with some older flavored juice and I switch back and forth. I'm in this not only for my health but to be cost effective and it thrills me to find ways to stretch my money!

My goal here is to be able to use just a tiny bit of flavoring (in addition to using unflavored) to get some flavor and still be able to keep my cartos running for a couple weeks. and of course save money! I'm a happy camper too! (get it? see my avatar)

Now if I could only figure out how to keep these 901 attys alive! I used to could keep a 510 alive and going for weeks at a time.

    ...

Carto longevity was one of my reasons for going with barely-flavored, but just as much or more, I was going for something that I would not burn out on. I really wanted an all-day-every-day vape in much the same way I stuck to this or that brand of cigarettes for years and years. A series of fully flavored juices seemed promising at first, but invariably I'd tire of them. Maybe it's the subtlety of a lightly flavored juice that has made me more satisfied to stick with it over some months, so far. (Others' miles may vary, of course...)

I just use no more than %25 VG and haven't had a problem mixing it. I've also put my mixed bottles in a pot of very warm water to get the VG thinned and I guess it mixes better.
