Starting with mixing difficulties following Hurricane Michael, I went unflavored for more than a year. Now, I've begun taking commercial preparations and diluting them by about 50%, and coming up with roughly 10mg nic for a final.
Funny thing is, for the year+ unflavored, I honestly didn't miss it. As noted by others, it was ever so slightly peppery and just a hint of sweetness. My mixes were high in PG though, high VG would likely be sweeter.
I would be perfectly content to returning to unflavored, high PG. But, I bought some ridiculously cheap eliquid on clearance and I'm sure going to use it up.

One thing that DOES matter to me is the quality of the PG & VG. THAT (bad PG or VG) can muck up a flavor a LOT.

I use Bulk Apothecary, and like it a LOT. I run high PG too (65-75%), usually around 15mg.

I only vape unflavoured, VG/nic in VG base/distilled water.

I dont like the taste of a lot of the PG's Ive tried. Ive pif't all the PG I had.

VG varies from one stockist to the next taste wise but the difference in taste in the scheme of things isnt huge but it is noticeable. The exceptions being some really bad tasting(off?) vg that I bought from a local juice maker. It explained why I couldnt vape his crappy tasting juices.(another friend didnt notice the crap taste!!)

The current nic Im using is slightly peppery, which I like, and the VG Im using has a fuller taste to it(I cant describe what fuller taste means). With 7% dw the flavour is crisp and sweetish. No hint of dish cloth.
Im only using 3mg nic so the peppery taste is subdued but its pleasant. Ive had nic without any real hint of pepper and its a pretty bland vape.

I think wicking is important to get spot on with unflavoured, its the difference between clear sharp and sweet or dishcloth overtones.

YMMV

Yes!, the quality of PG/VG matters, and mostly the PG too...

I switched to VG + DW after countless batches of crap PG from several outlets, problem being if you traced the supply route back here in Australia, theres was only maybe 3 suppliers for VG & PG. I had reported a bad batch to one vape shop and their supplier had to go back through their supply chain and ended up chucking an entire run of barrels. When it happened a second time, id had enough, and removed PG completely. The worst PG i had was one batch that tasted and tasted like handwash, and one that smelled and tasted fishy

Theres only 2 places ill order VG from here and they both have the same supplier.

And weirdly, it seems the more DW you use, the sweeter the juice gets....im generally at 4-5%

I think everyone should try unflavoured, if not just to confirm their base ingredients are the goodness, theres nowhere to hide with unflavoured

As i always say when unflavoured comes up, unflavoured was the key for me, i got so bored and despondent with flavour chasing, it was an offhand comment form another vaper here "have you thought about unflavoured?" that saved the day. Till that point i assumed you had to have a flavour as it tasted nasty without, but no. Switched to unflavoured, and 4+ years later...without it i was in danger of backsliding to cigarettes. I continue to advocate for it whenever i can

I mostly vape unflavoured

started out of abject laziness, but took to it in favour of flavours

my default mix is 5 parts 100mg nic, 2.5 parts 36mg WTA, 2.5 parts VG

but, i find after a few months, something similar to vaper's tongue kicks in, and it starts being like shower steam. No TH, nothing, just thick air

so, once in a while, i run a natural flavour (either NETs or menthol from crystals) to reboot my palette for unflavoured

usually only a small %age flavour concentrate, which i do not actually measure, just guess "a bit"

If I was left with the only option of vaping flavoured juice I wouldve quit vaping after about 3-6months.
I cant stand the taste of the artificial flavours, and as I mentioned in the previous post, pg.
Finding unflavoured was quite literally a life saver and enabled me to keep vaping quit smoking and regain my health.

There's still a scant bit of hope that the FDA will have the overriding authority removed from their plate, but I don't know if that will happen. If it does, I think it will be one HECK of a vape party.

Hopeful, I am, but "optimistic" would be an inaccurate word for me to use.

Personally, I think it will come down to whether DJT thinks he needs the vape vote (or not). All we can do is keep the pressure on, because I know he'll get absolutely ZERO from my legislators (Blumenthal & Murphy in CT).

When I sent my last letter in, I got a form letter back from Murphy's office thanking me for my input on the immigration bill.

But I digress.
I got a form letter from Rand Paul, KY. I replied I didnt appreciate a form letter response, that I had a serious concern that I felt he should also take seriously. Also got a reply from the President's office too. Said my letter was given careful review. The fact that HR2339 didnt pass is a glimmer of hope.

Thanks for all the im input regarding flavorless vape juice. I might whizz up a small batch and try it out. But I do feel I'd like just a bit of mint in it.

Half the fun (at least) of vaping is playing around with stuff. :vapor::thumb:

I spent a few years transitioning from PG to full VG. The last 1 1/2 years(?) I been nearly all flavorless. I have some well aged flavored full VG that I very occasionally vape. In truth, flavored high VG it not too exciting. My daily driver mix is 1 part 100 mg/ml in VG to 1 part VG.

The concern over mixing, ratios, etc. is just about zero. Vaping now is pretty much 'just something I do'...as casual as smoking used to be as far as giving anything much thought.

I don't know what adding a little distilled water might add or take away from my mix.

I'm down to about 1/2 liter of a pre-mixed base, 75/25/24 PG/VG/NIC mg/ml. That'll last me at least to the end of this year, probably a bit into 2021. I have a liter of 100 mg/ml nic, that I purchased during a Black Friday sale last year. That liter has turned into 4 liters of 75/25/25 (PG/VG/NIC) base. I was exclusively using 30 mls of unflavored (about a months worth) vs. 30 mls of the base with a little bit of flavor added to it. Now I use 2 10ml bottles, one flavored the other unflavored, and I usually switch tank or two by tank or two. While a couple years ago I was definitely on the unflavored side of the line, I do like a little flavor in my life..

With my lack of sense of smell, unflavored juices do this after a handful of hits. But those few good hits I do get I like a lot, nice subtle flavors that have an interesting profile to me. I just wish I could get more than 5-10 hits before it fades to nothing.

As I reduced my flavoring level I found that cutting commercial liquid in half was plenty of flavor, sometimes still too much. Lately I've been getting quality bottles of premix on ridiculous sales as a base for when I want to flavor things a bit. Being a high PG vaper (2/3) I can mix these "modern" max VG liquids into something that fits my preference. I mostly order zero nic when possible to achieve maximum (refrigerator) shelf life. Easy mixin' when I feel like it!

I got to where commercial juice was too strongly flavored and thought, "Hey, I'll make my own". Everything I brewed up was worthy of having a hazard warning and quickly was relegated to ant killer status. I went flavorless 10 nic, 10 water and 80 VG. Hard to mess up with nothing but 10's to cipher. I like it, I use Nude Nicotine and the flavor is present but I lack the ability to describe it. But it has no peppery flavor.

I am a squonker, sometimes I like some flavor. I put a couple drops HHV Dragons' Fire into the drip tip. The flavor is very mild and can be tasted far longer that I thought it would. Coils last a long time.

Hope this is of some value.

My choice of nic has a slight peppery taste to it, which is part of the reason why it's my personal choice (I like it).

I incorporate flavorless as part of my options, and use it when feeling as you are with my other flavors. A few hours, or days, or sometimes just a few vapes even, and my appreciation for the other flavors returns.

All nic has a slight peppery taste to me. Not unpleasant, in fact I’d miss it if it weren’t there.

Even at 3 mg/ ml I taste it.

I have used flavorless, mostly in a squonk bottle, when I’m bored with flavors. Then, I can always drip something flavored on it to change things up.

    Somewhere out there
A couple of people have called unflavored "flavorless". No nic PG + VG is flavorless and boring. Nic has a flavor, I don't know that I'd call it peppery, but since I don't know how to better describe it, that will have to do. Some of the high-end "premium" nics get close to flavorless, but I prefer ones with a little more taste to them.

Been recently doing a bit more unflavored, usually with a couple of drops of FLV Sweetness added. Discovered a new use for it. I have a number of rtas and rdas, that while the vapor production and vapor density are really good, the flavor is lacking or disappointing.....despite trying various coil builds and wicking, sometimes due to the design (chimney is too long, etc). But using unflavored, the issue is moot and I'm able to enjoy these older attys again

I've had a cold off and on for a couple weeks, maybe that's why everything I vape tastes meh right now, dont know. But it's not that really, there just seems to be no flavors that are really all that. Even the jasmine boba tea flavor has lost some of the excitement it had when I first tried it. I'm vaping it right now and, well meh, ya know? Maybe it's just this cold and stuffy sinuses after all.
