The old fashioned cigarette is a most efficient way to satisfy a bunch of cravings. Decades of trial and error has made sure of that. And boy does it get the job done. For some vaping does the trick easily. Yet it seems those who are successful at switching had decided smoking is stupid. Not all as some tells stories of accidently making the switch.
Now for some, the vape device only increases the urge to light up old faithful. Regardless of how they vape there are times it just doesn't work out.
I'm a dual user for a few months now. I began vaping when I developed tachacardia. Oh, yeah I'll just puff on one of those 'cause the folks at ecf tell stories of sudden switching. Well, I made the mistake of vaping and smoking. Vape in the morning and evening and smoking during the day.
At first tobacco flavors worked pretty good. My goal was substitute one for the other. But then I started using flavors. Yum. Then different devices were tried. Again some success resulted. Yet my brain never has said "smoking is stupid" enough to not light up. My wife vaped with me and she was nearly smoke free but then one day she just stopped vaping. She has PG issues and developed a fever blister type of blemish on her lip each time an 80/20 (vg/pg) touched her lip. Hard as she tried there was still tiny drops getting past the atomizers. So she stopped vaping.
It kinda boils down to making up your mind that smoking is stupid and sticking with it. My tacacardia was solved with a pill. But now type 2 diabetes seems to be developing. My doctor says it's not unusual for people my age who don't eat at regular intervals and carry about 25 extra pounds to develop this. But the CDC says smoking also contributes.
Now regarding high doses of nicotine, again that works for some. Lots of Juul users swear by it. I tried the 50, 35, and 24 strengths and it made me want to smoke much worse than 3 strength. I chose a 6 in a flavor I like and that seems to have been the right amount to thwart the urge to smoke after a few puffs from a vape.
I don't do the big cloud thing like my brother who successfully stopped smoking a few months ago. Now the crazy thing is when he stopped smoking he began having health issues. Mostly physical, perhaps from over doing things thanks to all that new energy. But sinus related issues also surfaced. Now things have leveled off and he is acting 10 years younger. Not some suddenly playing tennis but in general is feeling a lot better after battling the changes taking place mentally and physically. He's my identical twin so it's like watching me through a one way mirror.
Bottom line is for some it takes time to make the switch for good. There are perils, but the struggle is worth it in the long run. Meanwhile that little voice over your shoulder whispers "just one cigarette won't hurt." Don't trust it.
Mixing your own juice is a good idea as it allows you to trial and error until a recipe that satisfies is reached. I found a 24 nic salt that was similar in flavor to my favorite 3 freebase sauce. Combined at 50/50 it was pretty good tasting too. But I went a different direction flavor-wise and stuck with 6 from store bought juice.
Being a light puffer from a vape a 60ml bottle lasts for months. Being a big cloud vaper also gives good reason to DIY. But trying a natural extracted tobacco flavor would be a logical step at duplicating the old faithful cigarette. After hitting reply I'm going to search out my bottle of Black Note Prelude (Va tobacco flavor) and fill up a tank with it. It's kind of pricey and only comes in a 50/50 blend of vg/pg, but it tastes just like my favorite brand of cigarette.

Try MTL maybe with higher nics. I am currently experimenting with it myself and I must say it's better than cloud chasing in so many aspects.
