Please see this document and act fast if you are a resident or business owner in any of Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, West Virginia & Washington.

From the document (edited):

  • As reported last week, VTA’s entire Government Affairs Team has been in constant communication with Appropriations Committee Members to explain the critical importance of changing the predicate date from Feb 2007 to

  •  Vapor companies and consumers need to target their message to certain Members of the House Appropriations Committee today to enhance the chances of success.

So, please take action now. This is a VERY important chapter in the history of vaping!

Sorry, Wrong Maryland Rep., :glare:

I will never understand How a Representative sitting on a National Matter Subcommittee Cannot be contacted by the people their actions will effect. :grr:
Yeah, I tried to email the Gentleman from Illinois but it wouldn't go through since I am not in his district.

I am not in the district, either, but they took my call and said they would give him the message. The guy was actually pretty nice, for a change.

What is predicate date? What is this about?

Thanks for asking, I couldn't make sense of all the abbreviations myself.

The people here are starting to sound more and more like politicians

For anyone not well versed in what's happening: The FDA is due next month to issue it's "deeming" - i.e., it will use the powers given to it by an act of congress (the FSPTCA) to "deem" e-cigarettes to be tobacco products.

The problem is that the very same act also effectively bans all e-cigarettes which came on the market after Feb 2007. That is to say, all of them. This is the "predicate date"

The current call to action is to try to move the date to the date the final rule is issued - which could be as soon as the end of next month.

It's imperfect, but much much better than having no vaping at all.

it will use the powers given to it by an act of congress (the FSPTCA)

Congressional Free Pass Card - Do as you wish(FDA) So long as you Provide Proper budgeting to cover Cost.

What this ever had to do with By the People For the People, I will never understand.:glare:

    * Think about it.
You cannot start up a Cigarette manufacturing company in the US
    1) If your product is substantially similar(Qualifying) You are infringing on some other company
    2) If your product is substantially Different it cannot meet FDA standards

    Who Serves Who?

The FDA has more Skeletons in its Closet than a Haunted House:ohmy:

Thank you, I was one not well-versed. My state already amended its interstate tobacco law to include e-liquid (in particular, vapable liquid, i.e. Not nicotine concentrates, flavoring concentrates, or hardware)

I'm not sure they can deem any hardware... Perhaps they will do so, but I also believe that things will work out as they should, and somehow, imo, I will continue vaping regardless. Call it faith. One thing is for sure, I will not go back to cigaretes. I would sooner dump VG onto my stove, I dare the FDA to ban vegetable glycerine (just kidding FDA, please don't do that)

I suggest everyone be involved in this. It will take you less than 5 minutes.

Go to Google and put in a zip code for a town that is in the Congressional members district. They are listed on the page Joe gave you.

Go back to Google and put in the Congressional members name. Go to their web page and send them an email.

I'll be doing this tomorrow morning when I get up.

    Thanks Joe!
