So far I've not smoked 168 packs. I'll leave the rest of the rest of the math to you, I'm horrid at it.

I no longer have a persistent cough or allergies.

Jen

Regarding the math skills, that's why God (aka Microsoft) invented the Excel spreadsheet!

Do you actually live in Virginia? I often say that I am from the DC area when talking with people from other parts of the country.

@KitKit

Thanks for the welcome! I've been a lurker since I started vaping and with the VA ban in effect, I felt it was time to crawl out from under my rock and add my voice and become an active part of the community.

@Conrad

Howdy neighbor! I used to work in Warrenton for about 7 years at the music store. Hopefully I'll be going to Fredricksburg for the big bash in March and have a chance to meet some of the awesome people on here! :)

Just did some more calculations on the actual amount of tobacco cigarettes I would have smoked since Nov 1 and 2480 is the number I came up with. It amazed me how many cigarettes I used to consume and besides the cost, the thought of all of those additives pretty much told me how much harm I was doing to myself. I never sat down and figured this out before and 1240 cigarettes a month is pretty sad!:( 14,880 cigs a year for many years! It's a wonder I'm still alive!

Vocalek, my son lives in Springfield too. I love your idea and am very interested in your results from all of this. Awesome work and it gave me a reality check! :)

Progress Report: So far, including information received via PM, we have saved Virginia over $17,000. I'm sure the real number is a lot closer to a million dollars.

Come on Virginians. Where are you? If you don't want to share your packs in public, PM me with your 2009 tally of packs and I will add it to the spread sheet.

According to my ticker thingy - I have avoided 137 packs of analogs. Since I still smoke, a more accurate number would be around 100.

One of the reasons I moved to Virginia (aside from the beauty and the history) is because Ohio had such draconian anti-smoking laws. Virginia was started on tobacco. The Jamestown settlers and those that followed didn't find gold, but they certainly found tobacco growing could make them rich. I figured this state would be a bit more friendly to smokers. In fact when we were down here looking for a house - April '07 I believe it was - I remember reading in the paper that the governor practicaly laughed at the idea of a smoking ban because "This is Virginia!" Oh well, I guess the politically corect save-me-from-myself do gooders will find you eventually, wherever you are.

Aside from the money that my quitting smoking has supposedly saved the comonwealth they should consider how banning smoking costs them money. I, and many other die-hard smokers and vapers, won't go out to eat if I can't have a smoke or a vape after a meal. I also won't go anywhere that I can't smoke or vape for a log stretch. That means I am not out there spending money and they aren't getting tax revenue.

I have vaped in several places since the ban, and no one has said anything about it. I will continue to do so until someone does say something. At which point, I will take my business to another restaurant, or just eat at home.

You are not saving the Commonwealth of Virginia any money by not smoking! You are personally saving money (depending on your luck with batteries, btw) but the state LOSES tax revenue when people give up cigarettes.

Personally, I agree with you. But they are the ones claiming that they are SPENDING $6.27 per pack for costs of treating smoking-related diseases. So, theoretically, if I didn't smoke those packs, they don't have to spend those dollars.

I didn't get mine until this monday, but I can say I am already feeling alot better. I used to get out of breath going up and down the steps a bunch but been running around all day. Not to mention teeth are staying whiter and no more stained tongue. Last night was the first night I went out with it and not smoking and I couldn't believe how much smokers stink lol.

So the queston was how many packs so 5 is how many I have not bought so far.

It's hard to believe I was the highest number of packs avoided on your list. Surely I was not the first person in the whole state to switch to e-cigs. It's only been 11 months!

There were 8 months in 2009 I did not smoke, but I was down to 1/2 pack a day when I switched.

There are a boatload of Virginians on ECF that we did not hear from. I think this information is still of value, to be used as background for next year's legislative session. How about it Virginians?
