XP will that get the burnt stuff off if you look in the middle of the wick and it is black?

When you do the dry burn, once you start to see the glow, blow into the coil after you release the button so that you blow out any buildup that loosens. Keep doing that until you see each wrap of the coil clearly when it glows. If there is buildup you will see a glob instead of the wraps of the coil.

Kemo - I found out my wick is covered with burnt stuff. Posted in another thread about it. Someone said to soak it in PGA, vodka, or vinegar, then possibly dry burn it.

I clean mine after a couple of tankfuls...then do a light dry burn.....still have my orignal heads going. I used to be afraid of dry burning.....now I just put them on a KGO and do quick bursts (1-2 seconds) until I quit getting "smoke" and see the coils glowing....seems to be working well.

It worked! Yay, thank you :)

Meh :( after a couple of minutes it started tasting really burnt. Took it apart. The wicks are black again, and fraying. What can you replace the wicks with?

If you have variable voltage you can try reducing the voltage when it tastes burnt, try adding a few drops of distilled water if you think your juice is too thick to wick well, or replace the head.

The entire head can be replaced for a couple bucks, or (if you buy some wick and wire, for a couple bucks) you can replace the wick and coil for a few cents. Lots of videos showing how to do that on YouTube.

I let the heads sit in PGA overnight usually myself ( they probably only need an hour or so but I've got spare heads so I just swap them while the other soaks )... then I dry burn after the soak.

Considering the time between when you were told how to do it.. and the time you reported back that it works... I suspect you didn't do it very well and it just needs to soak longer and be dry burned more thoroughly so you don't see any gunk left on the coils when finished.

LOL I just saw that. I don't know why I am trying to fix them when I can replace them so cheaply. Forget the wick and wire! Too much hassle for me ;)

To clean the head; I unscrew it and rinse the wicks under warm running tap water. Then I put it in a glass and cover it with a couple inches of Distilled Water and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes to boil the wicks clean and let it soak for another 5 minutes or so.

I pat the wicks dry with paper towel and then screw the head onto the center post and dry burn. Wash the other parts and dry with paper towel. I`m sure that this is more than what is necessary, but it keeps me happy. You don`t have to do this if you are happy with just a rinse after each tankful or so, and only boil when there is a buildup.

This has worked for me for a month.

wow metal in the microwave? maybe because its so small its okay? idgi

These Vivi minis just get better and better, if you like to DIY coils its fast and easy and provides a nice clean taste with more vapor then needed:)

you can simply take the existing 4 small wicks (or your preferred wick) and hold them on a straighten out small paper clip, I use K-A1 34 and rap a 4/3 coil tight around paper clip and wicks.

Then install the little insulator around the paper clip and wick, then stuff it into the head. Pull one wire tight and fold over (the paper clip keeps your coil aligned with wick slots and allows you to pull wire tight and fold over) now push the little rubber pc back in and pull tight the other wire and fold over rubber pc. push the little metal post back in, trim off excess wire.

Test Ohm's mine always come out to 2.4 or 2.5, fill and vape your heart out :)

Yeah. That would be great. Tried my first recoil last night on a startdust. 3 attempts. No go. No Go. 5.5Ohms. Tasted like crap. Must have had it too much on the silicone sleeve. Will try again when I am bored. I'm not sure which are worse. My fingers or my eyes.

Ha Ha! I would suck at making video, but i will in the future take pictures and post with a step by step on how I do it :)

I do cheat and use a magnifier glass to check my coil as and after i wrap it.

Tried the recoil again tonight. Removed a wrap. Tightened the coil up. Success. Two fat wicks (had to "V" the silicone cap a tad) 3.1 Ohm and vapin like a champ. This is the way Stardusts should be. Can't wait for the SmokTech rebuildable now and maybe some cotton wick. And various kanthal thickness. I think I just fed another monster inside me. Did someone say SS mesh? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

im not sure if this matters much to you, but the pbusardo review of the rebuildable smoktech leaves much to be desired.

I watched his review, and as I recall his main issue was that it's a poor experience out of the box, fiddling is required from the get-go. But seems to me that the target market for a rebuildable atty is a fiddle-friendly bunch, and many of them will forgive the initial out-of-the-box experience in exchange for a rebuildable at such a low price point.
