Here's my honest experience. Ordered one, plugged it in. The end lit up, but NO vapor and did NOT work. Also felt they were cheap made in China thin cable lightweight pieces of junk. I think it's just better to invest in a few extra batteries. That's MY opinion. Sent it back and waiting for a RE-fund.
A) better hit than a fully charged battery.
i haven't used a regular battery on my penstyle since i got the passthrough.
it's just the best i've found so far. no worrying about charging, switching, cycling batteries. just vape away and enjoy.

I'm gonna say it's the same hit as with a fully charged battery. Only difference is it's consistent. You get the same hit time after time. Plus your refilling or topping off carts all the time instead of charging batteries.
Besides me thinking they were a cheap POS, I prefer being able to get up out of my office and take my ecig with me while I go run to do something else real quick. I don't like being "hooked up" to an IV. LOL
Lucky ...i had the same problem in the begining ..until i read here in the forum that the problem was that the output mA on the "AC to usb adapter" and "car cigarette lighter to USB adapter " should be 1000mA ...once i got those right the pasthroughs worked...BUT
Based on Houdini's and Candy Girls's answer i have to asume that both of my pasthroughs are faulty..or have resistors..(or whatever thy are called ) on them that limits the power output on mine....

Because batteries last a long time and don't break down as often as passthroughs seem to die and it's easier to invest in an extra few batteries and have freedom IMO.
I have two USB-12v adapters for my truck. Using a PS pass-through, one adapter (500mA) produces no vapor; the other (700mA) makes half the vapor it should. A fresh battery works great. I take the same pass-through and plug it into my laptop, and it also works great.
If your pass-through works fine connected to a PC, then any other USB-powered connection that does not provide equivilent performance is likely not providing enough current.

I have to assume it is the input power that is poor on my end...and not good quality passthrough..
on my PC i get the worst vapor ...second comes the car usb 800mA out put..... and the wall ac to usb 1000mA (it says)..is better than the others but not as good as a fully charged battery

I'm having the same problem. Not much vapor from the passthrough. I think its the low amperage output on my laptop. I'm going to get one of these Battery holder: AA x 4 with USB interface connector, power switch and Belt clip - USBPS and some high quality rechargeable batteries and see what happens.
For me same as a fully charged battery, but consistent. I have 2 AC to USB. One is 5V 500MA output and works great, one is 5V 1000MA and doesn't work at all. 
I have 1 for the car that says 5V 1000MA output, but only works off and on.

Just got my passthrough for my 901. Was super excited up until I actually tried it... On one of my atomizers doesnt work at all with it (must be the middle contact not hitthing the battery contact problem others have talked about), and the other atomizer works, but worse than a dying battery. Lousy vapor and no throat hit. Plugged it into a different PC and got better vapor, but still no where near as good as a full battery...
