I use my old ashtrays as soak baths for my tanks, they are the perfect size. Just take them apart and plop them in with hot water. Keeps them separate from one other so I don't mix the different kinds up.

My old ashtray is sitting outside underneath the grill. I'm keeping it just in case we have a smoking guest, I suppose. But then I'll just take them to the local shop and convert them . . .
Mine have bee turned into mini trash cans. Tissues, candy wrappers ect. Hubby is too lazy to get up to put something small in the trash so ashtrays work.
I did keep one for company. Others In the trash except one pretty one that is now used as a base for a planter to catch the water over flow. Grow plant grow. 
I have a nice old (from the 50s) hotel ashtray on a stand. I put most of my other ashtrays in it. Sorry, that's the best I could come up with but I do love that old ashtray and wish I could come up with a better use for it.
Long gone..... Thrown in the trash due to lack of need!!!! That's a good thing! 
If cleaned very well you can use them as a candy dish. My wife still smokes though, so they are still in use. Hopefully this is the year she just quits. Doesn't annoy me as much as I thought it would though. She smokes far less than I ever did.
It's good to keep one or two around for guests. A fire was almost started when my wife put a cig out in a planter during the summer. We work from home and the office windows (thank goodness) looks out to the front and saw large billowing of smoke and put the thing out before it engulfed the house lol. Worst place to .... out a cigarette.

I never owned one! Never smoked in the house, used pop cans/water bottles outside.
I use mine for pistachio shells. It's much easier than dragging the trash can next to my chair every time.
I have decided I do not need ashtrays for guests. I will provide them with a PV instead and their choice of liquid, should be able to convert quite a few of my smoking friends.
I have some nice jade ashtrays that I picked up in turkey. I wont throw them out. I converted them to loose change holders.
Same in my house. I have a couple old metal coffee cans out in the shedd for company though.
I have one ashtray left in the house, it still has the remains of the last two cigarettes I smoked in it. I've left it as sort of a monument to my vaping...
