Using DIY flavor extract?

I've been thinkong about getting into DIY liquid making, and was wondering if anyone has used homemade flavor extracts for making their liquid. Making flavor extracts isn't hard, used the same process (but with higher alcohol content) to make flavored liquoers in the past. I feel it would bring in a different flavor to the final product, as well as piece of mind for what you are making. So, anyone make their own?
