I was over at the puresmoker site, ordered myself a fine protege V1.1 which is shipped and beating a path to my door now yay.

I got to thinking, and looked again at the prodigy (which used to be black and aluminum..which I didn't really like at all) and noted that all that was listed was the new "V2" ... which was now stainless and far more durable and attractive looking that the old aluminum one! I avoided the old prodigy for that very reason..the V2 is, in looks, what the original prodigy should have been.

I was unable to order this, and that's for the best, as I realized after further investigation, that it is designed for 2x 3.0v batteries, instead of the standard 18650. Thats unfortunate..as that probably means the internal diameter would not allow an 18650, and then there may be a length issue, and of course the switch will be fouled up with a resistor further blocking the path to 18650's inexpensive 3.7v goodness.

I then breathe a sigh of relief when I discover that the new V2.1 will be 3.7v, then shudder in horror when I read some bit about "17650 batteries being custom made for us"...again crushing my path to 18650 goodness.

is it just me, or is it blatently obvious that the new stainless V2 coupled with an 18650 was what would be logically expected? As soon as I saw it (the new beautiful stainless steel V2) i jumped for joy..then almost had a tantrum when i noted it wouldnt accept an 18650.

I'm hoping that there's some plans for a V2 styled device that accepts the cheap and readily available 18650, because the options that exist currently are what prevented me from buying a commercial 18650 device up till now.

Also if anyone has had any success removing the resistor and jamming an 18650 in the V2, that'd be good info to have (send me a PM if this is possible...although I assume its impossible as it is purpose built for 2x 3.0v batteries and theyre smaller in diameter)..

I just hate having my hopes crushed mercilessly by design changes that do not fit the standards Ive stocked up for.

You can run the copper ring and add a spacer for use with a 14500 but it will not run an 18650.. Very slender tube... You can also run a dummy CR123 and get 4.2 - 3.7 out of it with the 16340 (or CR123, 4.2 ` 3.7v bats)

I also think they should make an 18650 V2.2 or something...

I have one of the V1 Aluminum units and I can tell ya that's it was my main go to machine. I still carry it everywhere as a backup.
I have a V2 and a couple of the Protege's.. I still prefer the V1.
