So first a little about me. I am stubborn. I am stubborn. No, I didn't accidentally post the same thing twice, fact is, I am very stubborn. If you tell me "that can't be done" there is about a 90% chance I will find a way to do it. I don't care if it takes me 15 hours to fix an item I could buy new for 99 cents. Nothing makes you feel more God like than doing the impossible. lol
So when I was told that this vAir BVC-coil Unit could not be rebuilt.. well.. it was ON!
So after crushing 2 trying to separate the parts, numerous dead coils, shorted coils, etc (prob about 6) and numerous videos about other coils, I finally rebuilt one!
Here's how:
Take out the bottom pin (with the 2 little holes) and insert a small jewelers screwdriver, very carefully through the middle of the old coil, until it pokes out the top (through the ring that goes inside the tank. (Im using a vapeplum)
Then, carefully remove that rubber ring and set it aside. Next, pull the screwdriver out enough so you can wiggle the bottom ring out (it will be at the base of the screw driver. Now, very carefully rotate the screwdriver back and forth a bit, while gently pulling out the old coil. It will probably stick a bit at the end, but keep going, until it comes loose, keeping the coil wound as much as possible. Clean all the old burnt cotton off the coil. I had to gently pinch the coil with pliers and remove the residue with my fingers.
Next, keeping the wire on the screwdriver, rewrap any coils that unwrapped while removing it. Leaving about 1/2 inch. Pinch the coil together to space the coils until you get them roughly where you want. Bend the wire at the tip of the screwdriver straight down, and wrap a 3/8th to 1/2 inch x 1 inch, single layer of cotton, firmly (not tightly, but not loose either) around the coil. Clean the inside of the old unit with another screwdriver, nail, paperclip, whatever to get any old cotton out that might still be there. Blow on the end to check, and look through to be sure.
Next.. put the old reformed, cleaned, coil right back into the casing. The bottom wire will be poking out where the screwdriver tip is. Bend it over the metal casing and put the rubber ring back on, trapping the wire against the side.
Now, very carefully, twist the screwdriver and pull it out of the coil (be sure not to pull the coil out. I held it in with a fingernail while removing the screwdriver.) Trim the extra cotton, be careful not to cut the wire that was at the base of the screwdriver. Put the white rubber ring back on, with the wire through the center. Carefully, put that rubber back in place, and bend the wire end over the rubber. Replace the little metal pin, and carefully trim the extra wire. You will probably lose about 1/2 inch total or less. So rather than 1.8 ohm, you probably will end up with 1.75 or so.
Admire your handiwork
Hold your breath.
Saturate the rebuilt coil with juice, put it in the carty, let set a min, and give it a go.
If done right, the unit will fire as usual.
This is great if you cook your last coil at 4 am and the vape shop is closed. Or if you are totally financially embarrassed a day or 2 before payday. It might not be "good as new" but it will be"good enough to do". And will amuse you and get your mind off that ciggy you have been thinking about waking your neighbor up to bum off him.
I have done only 1, but next time I'll play with the wrapping of the cotton a bit, I would like it a bit looser than what i have, but still need it to go into the little hole in the cartridge that the stupid thing came out of.
Lol. See? STUBBORN!
