i have 2900 mAh 18650s and they seem to drain absurdly fast.
When i got these i thought i would be getting better battery life than the 1300 mAh vision spinner I used to have...

What brand? I know that some battery manufacturers flat out lie about the mah rating on their batteries. I have some Trustfire 700mah batteries, im lucking to get a couple hours out of them. While i may have faulty or old batteries, i have heard this from others. There is a list made up of good battery brands on here somewhere. Check it out.

I'm having a problem with my new Vamo 2 as well. This is the second one that I've owned. Broke the post off a Protank in the first one and had no luck removing it. Anyway, this new one has several issues...1) When I change the battery and turn it back on it reverts to 3.0V setting (from 8-10W setting). 2) I can't get a good vape from it unless I'm at 11-12W, regardless of what type of delivery device is used. 3) I'm only averaging about 7 hours from my 18650 2400mah batteries when they would routinely last 14-16 hours (yes, even when vaping at 8W like I used to do). Is this how they're supposed to work now I guess is my question?

Even once you screw a device on it?

I don't own a V2 (have a V3) but are you sure you are in RMS mode and not MEAN mode? Press and hold the + button (I think it is) for 14 seconds to see which mode you are in. If it's not the + button it's the - button. Make sure it is in RMS mode.

I only get about 5 hours out of my 18650 2000mah batts, so that sounds right to me. But are you saying your previous Vamo got 14hrs with those same batts? Was your previous Vamo also a V2?

I have never figured total actual use time (i.e time per vape times number of vapes) but i get a day out of an 18650 in my vamo and about 2 out of the same battery in my Tesla.

Really? It's the first V3 I have personally heard of that does. How do you access the RMS/Mean mode option on it?
No apparently there are some 2nd generation V3's (new sales) going out with the brand spanking new V5 innards in em...thus the option of Mean/RMS is BACK in the V3's...who knew?

Are you in Mean or RMS mode?

Yes, I've since realized there are multiple plants in China cranking these out, and apparently each plant turns out their stock according to which parts are on hand. Or so it would seem. That would account for the wide variation among the same model. Sometimes V3s get the original V3 PCB, sometimes they the the V5 PCB.... and even among V5s, some have the V3 PCB (no Mean/RMS option) while others have the PCB with the option. Since all the parts are mix and match it's a crap shoot.

Another member here made a point in a different thead that all the PCB boards are actually the same, but certain functions have been set and/or disabled on certain boards.

Are you in Mean or RMS mode?

That's what I asked... sounds like the most plausible explanation that he's in MEAN mode vs the preferred RMS.

@Trayce

1) I don't change the battery often without a device connected. With my first Vamo V2 it retained the wattage mode and wattage setting when changing the batteries...

2) Yes, 100% certain that I'm in RMS mode (NO2)...

3) Yes, I was averaging about 14 hours or so from the same batteries in my first Vamo V2.

Then it would certainly seem this new Vamo has some kind of problem. If you have only had it a short time I'd contact the vendor for a replacement.

Sound advice Trayce, but it is performing marginally well, and returning an item to Fasttech might become a logistical nightmare, so I'll just deal with it I guess and post about it on their comments board and see where it goes from there. I was simply wondering if it had changed since I bought the first one back in June.

Wish I could help but I got mine in Sept and don't have an earlier one to compare it to. However there are plenty of people who have bought multiple Vamos so I would think there would be more posts like yours if it had changed. (I also buy certain gear from FT and got my Vamo from them, and that IS one bummer about it... not wanting to return stuff to them b/c of the hassle factor.) Good luck.
