So my vamo v3 died, dropped her real good. I'm attempting to use the chip for a box mod, but I do not know a ton about the wiring. Ive got buttons all figured out, but is the negative lead (black wire) shared between the 510 connector and the battery? would i just solder another lead to the same point and take one to the battery and one to the 510?

any advice is appreciated.

I grounded the negative battery leads and the negative {black} Vamo lead to the outside of the 510. Works great! :vapor:

Battery case hack Vamo mod:

Four black ground leads, from battery negative, 510 connector, USB charge PCB and Vamo PCB, all meet in a ghastly solder blob tastefully hidden by red tape:

What size battery and whats the mah rating? I was going to try the arlo, but being that this is my first mod, I thought I might have trouble fitting 2 18650s plus vamo and buttons into that small case. I'm thinking about maybe trying with just one 18650 but I don't know what to expect for battery life.

That is a Samsung ICR18650-28A 4.3V 18650 2800mAh rated at 2C or 5.6 A continuous discharge. The Vamo draws a maximum of 5 A, so there is some headroom. Note the non standard maximum voltage. Using a normal li-ion charger with a 4.2 V termination voltage will not give you the full rated 2800 mAh, but on the other hand you should get a longer lifespan.

This hack was just for testing the setup as I haven't decided on the final enclosure. I haven't used it enough to weigh in on real usage battery life, but I expect it will suffice.

Well on the vamo itself, the negative lead (black wire) is soldered to the outer part of the pressfit cap that has the 510 thread; since the pressfit cap is pressfit onto the body of the vamo, the negative lead electically connects to the negative side of the battery.

Easier to connect that black wire to some part of the box body and solder from there that to attempt soldering a second wire from the same point on that tiny board.
