Lets see here...This thread has had over 2000 views so far...and if each of those "viewers" had educated just 3 un-informed
Smokers...or just plain folks about e-cigs. Explaining the life saving benefits to each.
How many lives would be extended...or even saved?? You do the math.
Is it worth it?
Let your own selfish fear of perceived public scorn (fostered singularly of ignorance) decide. Indeed, let your conscience decide.
While you cower in corners and shadows to vape.

Let the lawmakers and big Pharm paid media be the Selfish hypocrites!

You may think me harsh. In fact most won't have read this far.

My dear Sister died of lung cancer when she was 44...Years before the invention of e-cigs.

Now I am in my own battle with cancer.
While I win this battle, and maybe gain a few more weeks of life by finding e-cigs,
do you think I give a rats ... what someone may think of me if I toot a harmless freakin' vapor anywhere I dam well please???

But you can also be sure that if they ask me...I will gladly tell them all about it.

Maybe it wll help someone just 1.....maybe more, long after I am gone!

I know that I am preaching to the choir here...

Don't be afraid to Vape in public.

It's that important!

I just started vaping 3 months ago and only recently have I begun vaping everywhere (after reading a thread about vapers in the wild). It hadn't really occurred to me to do so as I was always not necessarily a "secretive" smoker but not an "in-your-face" smoker so I think it just carried over to vaping. Now I'm making a small but relatively concerted effort to be seen vaping and hope others ask me about it.

I've been openly vaping in public for years.
However, I do remember at first being a little self conscious.
I'll share what I do and it works very well for me.
Anytime I notice anyone starring (with that disapproval look thing) ...
I make eye contact ... Then give them a big smile and waive at them
as if they are a long lost friend.

1 of 2 things happen next.

In the overwhelming number of cases...They look away and refused to look back at me.
Rarely will someone wave back and approach me asking "Do I know you" ??
But when that happens ... I reply "No, I've never seen you before in my life...
however, I noticed you were interested in my Electronic cigarette and figured
you were curious ... let me explain what it is and why it helped me stop smoking."

At that point they will either walk away or want to know more.
Regardless ... any potential issue was immediately defused.
If you smile and make eye contact ... Its obvious to Everyone that
you are not doing anything wrong and nothing to hide.

Works for me
:)

I pretty much vape at my favorite restaurants, theaters, even my local bank in a line up. I don't get much into telling non-smokers what it is beyond being a steam-based quit-smoking device. Some people have smirked slightly. I live in a jurisdiction where sales of nicotine-based e-cigs is restricted and don't care to make any waves.

It seems smoking has not been seen in some of these places for well over 20 years and is probably not the hot button topic it once was. Most people are quite unconcerned and no one has yet jumped out of his seat. I suspect if anyone were to smell burning tobacco it would be a different story.

By the way ...
When talking to strangers ... I never ever ever ever
refer to my vape machine as
E-cigarette
E-cig
Personal Vaporizer
or any other "slang" term which is only familiar to those
in e-cigarette circles.

The public at large ... If they've heard of them ...
Know these as Electronic cigarettes

We here would like to come up with some word or phrase
to distance what we use from cigarettes.

Friends ...
The word "Electric" before cigarette says it
To call them e-cigs (in my opinion) is just screams
"Slang word" e-smokers use amongst themselves.

Blu e-cigarette company has on their web site
Blu ecigs
They sell Electronic Cigarettes
:)

Everyone chooses to call them what is most comfortable to them.
As long as they emit a smoke-like vapor ...
It makes absolutely no difference our movement what we here
on an Electronic cigarette forum choose to call them.

Seems the non-smokers and all the organizations that back no smoking that still look at us as smokers need a wake up call, they need to be educated.
We are so use to having to be in the shadows we are still staying in that shadow, being dictated to by the non-smoker which now we are a member of that grp.
We need to educate when ever possible, getting as many people as possible to understand what it is and understanding its not smoke, no combustion. We need to come out of the shadows, we need to have a voice, and a say, just like the non-smokers have had upto now, they got law passed against smoking.
I suggest everyone write their congress man or woman, tell them your story, tell them how it has helped you in your life.

We need to show people the ignored study from Italy where they found no nic was left in the air and no harmful chemicals. We need to show how the study the FDA used was bad from the start and doesnt hold true today.

Just found this thread. I will repeat a message I posted in another, similar thread:

When I came back from the shops a few weeks ago, I saw a police van parked in my street, with two officers in it, facing toward me. I thought, this might become interesting, so I took a big puff of my eVic while I was walking towards the van, making sure they could clearly see what I was doing. When I was close to them, one officer rolled down his window and asked "What is that?" I showed him the eVic and said "Take a wild guess." He already knew it was an electronic cigarette, so we talked a bit about how it worked, what's in the liquid, where you can get them, what the costs are and that kind of stuff. All the while he was smoking a RYO in the van, the other officer just sitting there and listening and grinning. I told him my address and if the police department ever needed more information, I would be happy to give a lecture and a demonstration.

I guess over here the relation between citizens and police officers is a bit different than in the US.

Another of my experiences. A month or so ago I was in the waiting room of my gp. There was only one other person waiting there, a young girl. Though I felt a bit guilty, I did take some stealth-intended puffs off of my Vamo. And yes, I know, "Vamo" and "stealth" don't go very well together. So, the girl noticed and said "May I ask you something sir?" "Of course" I said. "Is that one of those electronic cigarettes?" "Yes it is" I answered. She wanted to know more about it, she never met anyone using an ecig, but her boyfriend wanted to stop smoking, and she was there to ask how the gp could be of help. And now that she saw me using an ecig, maybe it could be an alternative? So, while we were both waiting, I told her how it works, where to get it, the advantages of using an ecig instead of the real deal, and so forth. She was very happy with all this information, and I was very happy that maybe I had given her boyfriend a chance to quit the easiest way.

One week later, I was at the hospital to get my knee X-rayed, the reason why I visited my gp in the first place. When that was done (making sure that the knee specialist had noticed my eVic and had asked me to demonstrate it) I was waiting at the bus stop to return home, making sure that my eVic was very visible and producing glorious clouds. One elderly lady at the bus stop said "May I ask you a question sir?" so there I went again, telling her all about ecigs. Two other ladies listened in and had questions too. Interestingly, one of these ladies just returned from a stop smoking class at the hospital that she had been attending for the last two months. Nobody there ever told her about the existence of ecigs.

It really depends on the cop. I would never expect to see one smoking a cigarette in a vehicle unless they were undercover though :)

I always hang out with the smokers at work, and generally vape with them while they have their cigs. Up until very recently I was also one of the smoking group, and always smelled less than pleasant after a smoke break. Keeping with the same crowd actually helps me quit smoking analogs as I'm still partaking in the habit with my friends. They all think it's a pretty cool device, and ask questions about it. My non-smoking co-workers think it's a great idea as well, and my peers generally don't mind if I vape indoors. My bosses aren't too keen on the vaping indoors aspect, however it has definitely garnered a lot of attention. I always answer to my full abilities when asked about e-cigs, and I may have a few vaping buddies in the making who want to make the swap.

I've only been vaping for a little over a week, however I'm already noticing a huge difference in my health. Also the benefit of not smelling like an ashtray is greatly appreciated by my wife. Since I started vaping, my analog intake has gone from a pack a day to less than a pack a week. Did not smoke a single analog during the weekend, and at work I usually only have 2-3 a day. Now that I have a V2 Cig, it's even better than the Blu I started off with. I don't have the balls to smoke openly in a restaurant or any other public place, however I will vape with pride in the designated smoking areas :)

Until the recent death of my first electric cigarette, I vaped openly anywhere I could (Apart from clothing shops, and food outlets out of courtesy!).
Most people find it a great idea, and I have had a few questions about it (I was using a cheapy at the time however, so couldn't explain it that much!), but there are the odd few who have a go.
The main example, is one that occurred last thursday. Stood on the train platform (after asking the rail staff about using it, they said it was fine) -VERY important part of the story that.
I'd been using it for about 2 minutes, whilst two people stood next to me, both with lit rollies. Bare in mind, they were stood RIGHT next to the no smoking sign. So, i continue with the vaping...
Then, once they'd both got onto a train, a guy walks up and says "Oi, you're not meant to be smoking here!"... He was stood watching the two with rollies, and didn't approach them! (Also, I am only 18 and not a 'menacing' looking chap! so could explain it!)
I then did the usual reply "I have asked the rail staff, as well as the rail police. All it is, is an electronic nicotine inhaler"
He then went off on one, explaining how I was still exhaling 'harmful toxins' into the air.
So, I turned into defensive mode (I hate to say), and asked how good his chemistry was, and through trying to big himself up, he said he was great.
I then explained the basic components of e-liquid. PG, VG, Nicotine liquid, and flavouring. I then explained how when I inhale, It's around 0.18mg...
Nope, he wouldn't have it, saying that I was still exhaling Nicotine into the enviroment.
At this point, I was getting kind of annoyed. He had come over, whilst I was on my own instead of when there were two people OBVIOUSLY smoking, and had a go at me for doing something that I had permission to do.
At this point, a member of the rail staff came into view. So, I said politely "I don't mind moving somewhere else sir if it angers you, however, I will make it present that the member of rail staff over there *I glanced over at this point*, has been there for some time. If you would like to ask him, feel free"
At this point, he just walked off without saying a word.

BUT, on the whole... Most people think it's a great idea! :p

I have been ogled by police because I have dreads and was exhaling after ripping an eGo in a moving car. We actually got followed for several miles once. But the other day, I was walking down the street ripping my stainless eGo as a cop stopped at a stop sign not too far in front of me. So I said screw it and took a massive rip, blowing steam out of my nose and the whole ...... Then, after I was done I put the PV right in my pocket. The cop nodded at me and drove off. I was, and remain, shocked at this. I was expecting a little harassment at least, a full cavity search in the worst case scenario. Could it be that some police are actually informed about e-cigarettes now or do you think since I wasn't making any attempt to hide the device that he figured it had to be legal since I was doing it while looking him in the face?

Petrodus, I MUST remember that! I just went on about how the levels of Nicotine i would actually inhale, were probably less than the atmospheric level anyway!
Trust your gut feelings ...
Don't even try to argue with those who have closed minds.
You see it as trying to help and educate.
They couldn't care less and many of them live for the chance
to browbeat and tell others what they should and shouldn't
believe and what others should do and not do.
They aren't listening to you or care what you have to say.

One out of a hundred might change their minds
but you wasted 99 conversations and the time wasted
could have best been spent talking to curious smokers.

If your gut feelings sense you have encountered a closed mind...
The odds are ... its time to just walk away.
:)

I use that "Urban Myth" routine just as a test to see
what kind of reaction I get. If its a closed minded one...
Bye-bye !!
:p
