Vape is harsh and little vapor at first then gets normal?

Hi,

I've been vaping for about a year now and i've gone through all the stages (cigalikes, egos, vw, mechs, tanks, rda, cartos...ect) and something that has always bothered me is that when i first grab my vape in the morning or after a while of not vaping off it, the vape is really thin and pretty harsh (currently vaping 12mg juice 60/40 vg/pg carny4 by g2, although this has happened with all the other brands as well) but then after a couple chain vapes (tank/ rda is a bit warm) the vape starts coming really smooth and thick. My two setups are a hana with an atlantis which i vape at 26.5 watts, and an atty with a dual coil (0.5 ohms 26 gauge kanthal 5 wraps on each side) on a cf sub ohm (it's a great setup once the issue im having is out of the way).

Is there something i'm doing wrong? Or is this normal?

Any help is much appreciated and i'm glad to be a new ecf member (although ive been reading through the forums since day one of vaping hahaha)

Thank you for your time.

I think it's normal, but I'm not exactly sure what's going on. It happens to me, too. I've wondered if the juice separates in the tank somewhat overnight, so I always roll it around or give it a little shake before firing it up. I've even tried opening up the tank and letting it air out a little, but nothing seems to work very well. It's not until I get a lot of heat that it starts tasting good. Until that point, I don't inhale... just draw it into my mouth and let the vape go.

Ahh i've tried all those things!
I've even developed a theory (far stretch but there's no other explanation) my theory is this:
Since the nicotine used in most juices is most likely pg based and pg is less dense then vg, the wick once left to settle, will absorb the pg based nicotine and not the vg. So when you first vape, all thats in the wick is pg based nicotine (which would explain the lack of flavor, lack of vapor, and harshness) but after a while whats in the coil is vaporized and you will then start vaping all the vg/ pg goodness all together.
The hole in my theory is that it doesnt apply to rda's, because on an rda all the juice is already in the wick but the problem persist... so i honestly have no idea what black magic is going on here.

Thank you so much for your quick response though. I hope there is a fix because it's pretty annoying

Here's my theory...that first vape of the day, your coil, wick and juice is "cold", so for the given amount of time you are vaping it doesn't heat up very much to produce a lot of vapor. Each subsequent vape, the coil, wick and juice still has some residual heat from the previous vape, so it reaches a higher temperature. This is why when you are chain vaping, the coil section of your tank will get warmer to the touch.

I've found the same thing with new Atlantis OCC coils, nothing else seem to replicate the lack of vapor than Atlantis, until I use it for about 10 minutes, then its normal. Even after priming the coil to the point is won't take any more juice without flooding....odd, but I still like them after their broken in.

I never gave it much thought honestly even though I get the same feeling. Mine is 100% VG and 6mg nicotine of unflavored.
Personally, I love that feeling. The first vape right when you wake up with a fresh battery and a Reo Grand. It's amazing to me, but then the second vape and so forth is mellow like normal.

Not sure why it happens though, but there are good theories above.

It's totally normal. I take small puffs in the morning and after the shower I blow clouds. Gotta let the body wake up...

You're probably not far off. Same thing happens to me and I wouldn't be surprised if more people don't experience this. When you first wake up in the morning, you probably haven't vaped for six or seven hours (maybe more). When you take your first inhale of the day, your throat and lungs need to again get use to the foreign invasion of vapor. However, within two or three minutes of vaping all is, or should be, normal again. As a smoker, I experienced the same thing with the first cigarette of the day. The exact opposite is true at the end of the day. If I've been vaping the same liquid (I go through 4-5 ml of e-juice per day), by the end of the day, the vapor feels "weak" (still lots of vapor, but less throat hit sensation) and the taste diminishes considerably; it would appear that I've gotten use to the vape. For that reason I usually maintain two or three filled tanks containing different flavours. This allows me to "switch it up" throughout the day.
